Absolutely. I would have to seek out his. Hers comes up all the time whether I want it to or not. I had probably heard hers 100 times before I even knew it was an Iggy Pop song.
Interesting... Ive always known it as an Iggy song..
Not sure Ive heard her version more than a handful of times in my life..

I was surprised to see no mention of this song.

Also Blondie's "Tide is High" was originally a reggae type tune by a Jamaican band The Paragons in 1967
Mark Chestnutt did 'I'll Think of Something" which was originally done by Hank, Jr.

I had a co-worker who hated country, and absolutely despised Hank Williams, Jr.
One day, he said, "You know, I don't like country music, but that song (I'll Think of Something) is pretty good".
When I told him it was written by Hank, Jr, the look on his face was priceless. It was like he had to re-evaluate his entire life

Yes I do think it was more "popular". You couldn't walk into a nightclub in 1987 without hearing it every half hour. His song didn't chart until a re release in 1998. I think Siouxsie hit 41 on the UK charts, and as a previous poster mentioned, didn't even know Iggy's song existed.

...and if you saw any MTV in the 80s, this is a cover.

The FCC wouldn't allow airplay with the word "Kouchie" so Musical Youth had to change it to "Dutchie".

"Walk Don't Run" by the Ventures was a reworking of jazz guitarist Johnny Smith's number.

Fair enough.. I def wasn't in clubs in '87 as a teenager, but I was consuming music from the Stooges/Iggy at that time... So I have always known it just to be Iggy... all good!

John Fogerty readily admitted that Tina did the song better than CCR.

My favorite version is Herb Alpert's. His arrangement has more pep and sonic variety.

Metallica covered a lot of songs, particularly early in their career, and their cover usually became more popular / well known than the original. Blitzkrieg by the band of the same name is one example.
(This is the earlier, better version by Blitzkrieg. The later version is an overproduced hair metal mess.)

Funny
I think Chestnutt did a better job in his arrangement and whomever he had on the guitar at the end was no slouch of a player.
