DALLAS (KXAN) — American country music lost one of its most influential stars on Saturday with the death of Charley Pride in Dallas from COVID-19 complications.

According to a release from Pride’s publicists, Pride died Dec. 12, nearly one month after his final performance Nov. 11 at the Country Music Association Awards.

Is anybody going to San Antone or Phoenix, Arizona?
Any place is alright as long as I can forget I’ve ever known her.

At one time, the only act on CBS Records (Or was it Columbia?) to sell more records than Charley Pride was a guy named Presley.

A few yrs ago I heard Pat Dye telling a story about him. He said in the mid 60's as an assistant for Coach Bryant he had to head to New Orleans for a recruiting trip. Coach Bryant told him after visiting a few players to go to this bar on Bourbon St to see this man with a great voice perform. During a break between sets Dye got to talk to him & was so impressed he told him you're going to make it big one day. He gave him one of his SEC championship rings & told him yrs from now when you make it big i'll go to one of your concerts. 20 yrs later in the mid 80's Dye kept his promise & went to a Pride concert. Pride remembered him & pulled from his pocket that ring. Two more living legends that we loss this yr.
