quote:

Edward Theodore Gein (/gi?n/ GEEN; August 27, 1906[1] – July 26, 1984), also known as "the Butcher of Plainfield" or "the Plainfield Ghoul", was an American murderer, suspected serial killer and body snatcher. Gein's crimes, committed around his hometown of Plainfield, Wisconsin, gathered widespread notoriety in 1957 after authorities discovered that he had exhumed corpses from local graveyards and fashioned keepsakes from their bones and skin. He also confessed to killing two women: tavern owner Mary Hogan in 1954, and hardware store owner Bernice Worden in 1957.

Virgil Caine was a fictionalized character, but the events in the song were true.

Sure do love and miss Levon Helm.

How can you have a Todd Snider song on here about Historical Events and not have DB Cooper?

One of my favorites - Tear Stained Eye by Son Volt about the 1993 flooding along the Mississippi River that hit St. Genevieve, Missouri.

I like this collaboration with the Punch Brothers and Sarah Jarosz. The stripped down version of the song when performed at Paste Studios when they were known as Mandolin Orange is a good one also.

The guy singing is Andrew Marlin, the fiddle player is his wife, they both have fantastic voices.
