Can you guys recommend a clip on tuner for an acoustic. I’m a beginner…3 months in. Just purchased a Martin and want to buy the right tuner. So many options out there….TIA.

Here's what I use in the shop ...
D'Addario NS Micro Universal Tuner

Also ... If you want to spend more and get the best, Peterson - unquestionably the industry leader in electronic tuners for decades - makes a clip-on strobe tuner. It is the clip version of the pro Peterson on my repair bench I use for setting fretted instruments' intonation.

I just have a basic Snark clip on but I honestly use the Pro Guitar Tuner app on my phone 9/10 times.

Look into what’s on your headstock. Clip on tuners will mess up the finish on a Martin. That’s usually a nitro lacquer Martin though.

I use a TC Electric PolyTune clip-on. It’s been great.

Snark works well for me. Like to use it at home or if I am playing a small club and don’t have my pedalboard tuner pedal.

I'm curious ... A clip-on is not about bench strobe accuracy, it's about convenience, speed and portability at something organized like a gig or in a guitar lesson. Do any of the phone app tuners - Peterson or anyone else - have a clip-on with a screen that communicates with the phone via blue tooth? I'd fear the phone apps rely on a guitar cable and/or a USB cable (a PITA waiting to crap out and let you down on stage, compared to a traditional clip or a stompbox tuner); or an external mic (not practical useless unless you're in your quiet bedroom or a closet or bathroom backstage). Can anyone shed light?

The snark will not as it’s made of not stick rubber

I think the phone apps use the phone mic, and that would be trouble in a live setting.
Pedal is the optimal. The only drawback to the clip-on is since it is based on vibration through the wood there are issues if you have a drummer that won’t quit hitting the drums while you’re tuning.

^^^ That is a great unit too if you're an acoustic guy, and they are affordable enough to get one for each guitar and not bounce the same unit between.

Of course. You’re not going to want a clip on tuner for a live setting. If you’re playing an acoustic in a living room it’s ideal. On a stage, no.

When it comes to in the living room we usually all tune to the same tuner.
