Do any of the phone app tuners -...
... Can anyone shed light?
It was more about noticing how for the Peterson's it's phone app was definitely more discrete and fine tunable. Something to do with a much better processor I'm guessing; however other phone apps were not near as good so YMMV with phone apps. This one's great for a playing for the squirrels acoustic type player and always having a tuner with you instead of several sitting in other case's at home or a dead battery.
And yep, from just playing for church crowds a clip on is much better. As for a dark club I have one that would turn green when spot on and red when not. It's a great alternative than reading a meter... putting on glasses... or being off key. Again like you said they are cheap enough to have several. One more mention about phones some break down the whole spectrum of sound into it's various components/notes*, in a variety of different displays, which is great to analyze a song. And if brave or sneaky enough will let a fiddle player see she's off key.
