I think it's a great album all together, I like slow music so maybe that's why, but he has a great voice and his lyrics are killer.

Anyone else enjoyed this album?

It's a really solid album. Is it the goat like everyone is acting? No. That's just really a reflection of the current state of country music. Best part of this album is that maybe, just maybe we will start to see nashville trend more like Chris Stapleton and less like Sam Hunt.

Yep, I liked the album, but I prefer Sturgill Simpson all day every day.

Like tilco said the best thing about it is that it brought attention to just how shitty country has became over the past several years.

It's ok. There's much better country music out there.

It's a good album full of good songs. I like almost every track. Is there anything timeless or great on it? Probably not but it's a good listen.

Really? I normally avoid modern country like the plague. And I think the Stapleton record is great. Better than Isbell's latest IMO.

I like the album, but some people need to pump the breaks on him a bit. Sturgill, in my opinion, is a good bit better. Some of Stapleton's lyrics can be kinda hokey as well. For example, this part in Parachute almost ruins the song for me, Parachute...If you think you're going down...Just know I will be around".

A little hint for you all. Check out his previous band, The Steeldrivers. It's more bluegrass and folk, but I find them to be much better than his solo stuff. Just a matter of personal preference.

Yep, that's my boy Derek Mixon from West Monroe playing drums on it. Killer singer.

I'm not saying Stapleton is better than Isbell, but I do enjoy his songs more than I do Isbell.

And, besides his work with the SteelDrivers:

quote:

He is an established songwriter with six number-one songs[4] including the five-week number-one "Never Wanted Nothing More" recorded by Kenny Chesney, "Love's Gonna Make It Alright" recorded by George Strait, and "Come Back Song" recorded by Darius Rucker.[5]

I forget which song it was, but ABC used something off his new album as the bumper music for the Bowl games this past year.

Sturgill is the best in the game and it's not even close for me.

Isbell would be next in line. Stapleton is a breath of fresh air in mainstream radio, though. I enjoy his music a lot and I think because of his popularity we will see someone like Sturgill start to get more recognition.

It's a different deal entirely but check out the album he did as the jompson brothers.. . It's rock but it's still Stapleton and it jams

Stapleton > Sturgill all day

I love Sturgill's sound but it's so hard to enjoy him because he mumbles the lyrics to all of his songs. You can't understand what he says.

Stapleton is an animal.

I think Stapleton has more broad appeal than Sturgill, based on my limited listening to both of them.
