The only way Taylor isn’t the average woman is that she isn’t fat

The Weeknd has been on a sold out stadium world tour for over a year now. Ed Sheeran sells out everywhere. So does Bad Bunny. Ya'll put this bland-arse bitch on a pedestal for no reason.

You named a bunch of bland arse artists

I do not put Taylor Swift on pedestal. This just isn't true. The Weeknd is the only artist you've listed with more Spotify listeners than Swift. Some of those artists have a song or songs that have more listens than any given Swift song, yes; but they do not have more listeners.

All of those artists are huge, but none of them are going to have the largest tour grosses ever, as Swift is about to. I'd guess Beyonce is the one you left off who could get close, but her current stadium tour hasn't generated the buzz, traveling psychos, and ticketing issues that the Swift one has.

Looking up The Weeknd's tour, it has supposedly grossed $311 million on 64 dates, mostly stadiums. Reports suggested Swift made close to $600 million on the first 52 dates, before she added a bunch of dates in Latin America and another round of US dates. Everyone is predicting over $1 billion for the whole thing. No one has ever done that. She's bigger than those other people, good or not.

You literally just watched damn near every white man in America cum themselves to some loser with a banjo, but you can't figure out how pop music works?

I don't get the TS hype either, but she's selling out the same NFL stadium 2 or 3 nights in a row.

Go check out how much her tour merch is going for on eBay. Absolute insanity.

This understates it, as you are mixing gross and net. Swift is expected to gross ~$1.5B - netting $500M+ for herself (and that's before the addition of the 14 new dates).

Essentially, she can sell out unlimited nights at any stadium in North America (if not the world).

A talented pop artist with a huge discography to draw from across multiple genres has an extremely dedicated fan base that has spent 17 years of their own lives getting into her music and her life + pent up demand for live shows due to covid.

Really not that hard to understand.

s this really the state of music right now?
Is the state of music that one artist is really popular and bringing joy to the masses? Yes, it is. I know that must be very disturbing for you.

What's the Gomlich effect?

I go to 35-50 concerts a year, varying Genres of music, just saw Turnpike Troubadors at the Ryman, Gary Clark Jr a few weeks ago, Phish, DMB, and Widespread this year too.

Taylor's show in Nashville was better than every one of them. The production value, the fans were respectful and shut up when it was time to shut up and sang when they were supposed to sing. Taylor's one of the better writers in all of music right now and has the ability to bounce through genres. Evermore and Folklore stand up to any of the great songwriters of this generation. I wasn't a huge fan before seeing her, but I was curious what all the hype was about and I 100% understood it after leaving the show.

My confusion over this phenomenon is that it appeared to materialize quickly.

As in, she's been very popular for a long time and it doesn't surprise me she's in demand. But she seems to have hit a new height in popularity quite suddenly and at a time when I - 30s male who doesn't listen to the radio but generally knows what's going on in the world - hadn't heard about anything to really launch her to a new height.

I may well be missing something - She hadn't toured for a long time? First stadium tour? But I suspect my confusion is somewhat similar to a lot of folks who don't have their head in the sand but don't really understand how it got to this point.

I’m pretty sure this is her first big tour since she started re-recording her music. Hence “The Eras Tour” where she’s covering an absurd amount of music in one set. She was supposed to have this tour during COVID and it got cancelled.

Apparently her 2015 tour was one of the highest grossing tours in a decade, so the established fanbase is there.

I’m not a huge fan but she apparently puts on a fantastic show. And IMO it’s reminiscent of the teen pop tours in the 90s/early 00s. I don’t view it any differently then me cramming my arse into an arena to see New Kids on the Block or *NSYNC years ago.

It's crazy to think about now, but I saw her open for George Strait in a half empty Cajundome. The Tears on My Guitar song had just came out. I have no clue what year it was.
