I think he’s pretty good. After listening to more country I can see why he sometimes gets a bad rap for being too “popish” but I honestly just think that makes him a better all-around artist. His music also holds up better than people give him credit for and he did a lot to popularize (or ruin in some people’s opinions) country music. I’d say he’s top 10 of all time for mere influence.

Don’t care about his persona. He made some seriously great music and was an absolute wizard of a live performer.

I personally find him to be vastly over-rated. Not a really great singer, mediocre songwriter when he did contribute to his albums, a-hole husband to his first wife, and just an overall unlikable personality. How he hood-winked so many into stroking his ego and buying his music is beyond me. Name one song of his that is really, and I mean really, a country standard that should stand the test of time?

He knew how to pick a few really good songs, that were written by other people.

Uh...no. I'm pretty sure he wrote almost every song he recorded. You might be thinking of King George who wrote almost none of his songs.

I think he's a great entertainer with a solid songbook. I do tire of his whispering pandering though.

You are wrong. Garths bigger songs let's use "The Dance" for example..were already written by somebody else. When Garth got popular, he could claim part of the writing credits, he's not the only one who did that, it's an old practice by popular artists.

How often do you see Garth Brooks credited for a song recorded by another artist, that was never recorded by him?

I have seen a lot of shows and he’s a top 3, hands down. At his peak the country bars were the place to be. I spent a many dollar at The Honky Tonk in Monroe.

He’s one of the most impressive serial killers of all time. Somehow managed to hide 40 maybe 50 bodies.

He’s not on Spotify but some schmuck named Brooks Jefferson performs all his songs and I honestly can’t tell much of a difference at this point. I don’t know what he wrote and what he didn’t but strictly as a performer, he’s nothing special.

Some of his deeper cuts are the best:
The Night I Called the Old Man Out
Face to Face
The Cowboy Song
