Also, check out Unified Theory. It was the guitarist and bassist forming a new band in the late 90's, and they found a singer whose voice was a mix between Hoon and Jeff Buckley. Seriously. This guy had some ridiculous pipes! It was the best record released that year it came out IMO. Critics raved about it, but it never really gained much traction

Unified Theory was fantastic. The singer was Chris Shinn, whose father, George, was the owner who brought the Hornets to New Orleans. After Unified Theory, he out out an album under the name Everything Is Energy.

Also, random note, the first album they put out after Shannon had a little release party at that old Warehouse Music off of College Drive. I am not really a fan of Travis Warren on vocals, but it was a great and very emotional acoustic show.

This is a hard one for me. They have always been one of my favorite bands since hearing the first album. I remember feverishly ordering Soup of of one of those weekly reader style papers at like 10.

Soup
Blind melon
Nico

Vernie
Mouthful of cavities
Change

I went to house/keg party in the mid/late 80s in Starkville, MS that had a really good band playing in the backyard that turned into Blind Melon. Three of the MS guys in the house party band moved to LA and met a singer named Shannon Hoon.
StarkVegas had a pretty decent music scene in the early 90s that I was part of for a time. The local guys in BM were all from West Point, one of them had a kid brother who was in a pretty good band whose name escapes me at the moment.

Was there buddy. There are some really sketchy videos from that jam on youtube. Never the same without Shannon, but very cool nonetheless.

Tones of home is an all time great. No Rain is an all time great.

They had a lot of other really good songs.

There was decent local talent. Law of Nature, Jokers Ride, Young Agent Jones, David C And the Traveling Medicine Show, Puerto Rican Rum Drunks,

Anything from the first two albums is a winner for me.

Great band. Loved them. Not familiar with the others, although Young Agent Jones rings a bell.

Do you remember:
i.e.
Grass
Skeleton Crew (later called themselves Torture Orchid)
Emma Peel

Damn, my memory is failing me. Used to be able to name a dozen bands from that era. It was only 30 years ago after all

Hoon's best work was obviously on "Don't Cry".

J/K of course.

If you don't love Blind Melon you probably never listened to anything but No Rain on the radio. Amazing band where most of the songs on all 3 albums are great. Hoon dying was extremely sad. They would have made a lot of great music had he lived.

After no rain blew up, i loved how the band changed the arrangement live and made it all slow in the beginning.

No rain ripped away

I went back & forth on seeing them at the last show they did in Houston before Hoon's death, but ultimately didn't go...
