The entirety of Dark Side of the Moon qualifies for this topic. Best album of all time.
But, to contribute something new to the discussion, I'll nominate "Fight Test" by the Flaming Lips:
I thought I was smart, I thought I was right,
I thought it better not to fight,
I thought there was a virtue in always being cool.
So it came time to fight, and I thought I'll just step aside
And that the time would prove you wrong,
And that you would be the fool.
I don't know where the sunbeams end,
And the starlight begins
It's all a mystery
Oh, to fight is to defend - if it's not now, then tell me when
Would be the time that you would stand up and be a man?
For to lose I could accept, but to surrender - I just wept
And regretted this moment that I was the fool.
I don't know where the sunbeams end,
And the starlight begins
It's all a mystery
And I don't know how a man decides
What is right for his own life
It's all a mystery
'Cause I'm a man, not a boy, and there are things you can't avoid,
You have to face them when you're not prepared to face them.
If I could, I would, but you're with him now, it'd do no good.
I should have fought him, but instead I let him take you.

I wish that I could go to church but I'm too ashamed of me
I hate the fact it takes a bottle to get me on my knees
And I hope he'll forgive the things you ain't forgot
When I get drunk, and talk to God
I hate the fact it takes a bottle to get me on my knees
And I hope he'll forgive the things you ain't forgot
When I get drunk, and talk to God

Is there anyone who
Ever remembers changing their mind from
The paint on a sign
Is there anyone who really recalls
Ever breaking rank at all
For something someone yelled real loud one time
Oh everyone believes
In how they think it ought to be
Oh everyone believes
And they're not going easily
Belief is a beautiful armor
But makes for the heaviest sword
Like punching underwater
You never can hit who you're trying for
Some need the exhibition
And some have to know they tried
It's the chemical weapon
For the war that's raging on inside
Oh everyone believes
From emptiness to everything
Oh everyone believes
And no one's going quietly
We're never gonna win the world
We're never gonna stop the war
We're never gonna beat this
If belief is what we're fighting for
We're never gonna win the world
We're never gonna stop the war
We're never gonna beat this
If belief is what we're fighting for
Is there anyone who can remember
Ever surrender, with their life on the line
We're never gonna win the world
We're never gonna stop the war
We're never gonna beat this
If belief is what we're fighting for
We're never gonna win the world
We're never gonna stop the war
We're never gonna beat this
If belief is what we're fighting for
What puts a hundred thousand children in the sand?
Belief can
Belief can
What puts the folded flag inside his mother's hand?
Belief can

Another by Kris Kristofferson, "Sunday Morning Coming Down":
quote:
Well I woke up Sunday morning with no way to hold my head that didn't hurt
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad so I had one more for desert
Then I fumbled through my closet for my clothes and found my cleanest dirty shirt
And I shaved my face and combed my hair
And stumbled down the stair to meet the day
I'd smoke my brain the night before with cigarettes and songs I'd been a picking
But I lit my first and watched the small kid cussin' at a can that he was kicking
Then I crossed the empty street and caught
The Sunday smell of someone fryin' chicken
And it took me back to something that I'd lost somewhere somehow along the way
On a Sunday morning sidewalk

John Prine.
There’s a hole in daddy’s arm where all the money goes….
I hate graveyards and old pawn shops.
For they always bring me tears. I can’t forget the way they rob me. Of my childhood souvenirs.

Remember the first time I heard this on DCR(Digital Cable Radio) while in college. Was your typical stoner that loved Floyd, but never realized that their catalog was actually better outside of Wall and Dark Side. Animals and Meddle are incredible albums. Lyrics and music to Animals are a masterpiece and when I meet someone who knows the album, nonetheless likes it, I know they are worth talking to.

A thousand dollar car ain't gonna roll
'Til you throw at least another thousand in the hole
Sink your money in it, and there you are
The owner of a two thousand dollar thousand dollar car

The owner of a two thousand dollar thousand dollar car

Stones
Loving Cup
“ Yes, I am nitty gritty and my shirt's all torn
But I would love to spill the beans with you till dawn”
Rocks Off
I hear you talking
When I'm on the street
Your mouth don't move
But I can hear you speak

For me it’s Time from Pink Floyd
The older I get, the more that song punches me in the gut. I think it may be the most perfect song ever written. From the opening clock bells, the the last note. Perfect summation of life.

I'm becoming this
All I want to do
Is be more like me
And be less like you
All I want to do
Is be more like me
And be less like you

And if my thought-dreams could be seen
They'd probably put my head in a guillotine
But it's alright, Ma, it's life and life only
