"Live at the Fillmore East" is the standard, as most long-time fans would agree. And yes, it's on Spotify. I believe a new release with more stuff from these concerts is available too.

Okay, now you got me in the mood for some "Dreams" and "Whipping Post".

Yep, I doubt you'll get much disagreement over that. It's not only the best Allman Bros live album, it's one of the best live albums ever.

I need to listen to the one they had the Grateful Dead sound engineer Owsley Stanley produce. I'll find the name of it and come back.

Pretty embarrassing you'd even have to ask this

I actually like the SUNY-Stony Brook live album from a few weeks before Duane's death more than the Fillmore East one.

I mean it is a historical album not just for the band but for live music in general; widely considered to be the band's magnum opus. I wish there were more pristine soundboards out of that era but unfortunately that just isn't the case.

It's great hearing Blue Sky but the quality of the recording and just overall energy compared to Fillmore East is lackluster

It also came out 11 years before I was born.

OK so let's ask a tougher question - best recording with Haynes/Trucks?

If you can find it, their Jazzfest set from 2010 is the best I ever heard that incarnation of the band play. If not, One Way Out is pretty damn good too.

true

keep in mind, the early ABB rarely varied their live sets; it was usually five- seven of the same songs. so the search for the "best" live ABB album comes down to tape quality and the improvisation within the set

the fillmore 70 being re-released now was taped by maybe the greatest soundman to ever live. i cant wait to hear it fully restored

Best I ever saw them too. Greg's voice was in good shape that day too. I got there a song after they started but squeezed up close.

I found this video of "Dreams" from that set on Youtube. Not great but they got some good closeup views of Haynes and Trucks.

The Melissa encore was so good with Derek playing the Dickie Betts part (with a broken leg no less).

Here is a link where you can buy that set. If you want it on CD it'll cost you $25 but you can download it in FLAC for $18. Well worth it in my opinion.

Setlist:
Don't Keep Me Wonderin'
Trouble No More
Midnight Rider
Woman Across the River
Ain't Wastin' Time No More
Blind Willie McTell
Statesboro Blues
Soulshine
Black Hearted Woman
Dreams
And It Stoned Me
No One Left To Run With
Whipping Post
Melissa
One Way Out

ETA: I've probably said this before but that was the best Jazzfest day I ever experienced. It was Wetlands Allstars, then Levon Helm then ABB. It had rained the Friday before and the whole place smelled like horse shite but putting up with the mud and the smell was easily worth it.

Blue Sky from that set is tGOAT.

Damn strong Dreams and You Don't Love Me, too. On the 'Liz Reed, you can hear Dickey's string busting and Duane stepping in for a little bit to cover him.
