Why don't you just follow what you like? Let that take you wherever it does.

I know what the OP needs

ETA: It was not until this very day that I noticed Jack Black's pointer in the scene has devil horns.

just put it on the default classic rock station in your town.

I did this one summer in middle or early high school. I knew all the stuff my dad listened to but wanted more. I learned a lot of classic rock that summer / I’d listen all day and soon I could pick out the Zep songs, The Who, and all the bands that they only played 1-2 hits from or bands that had multiple singers in different songs.

Yeah I think for a TRUE beginner this is the only real way to go due to the variety. I kinda smh at people saying "ok you want to start off with [then names 20 bands]". Like how does that help? Shoudl this beginner listen to the entire catalogue of every album of the bands listed? It'd take him years just to come out of the starting phase.

Learn from me, a 70 classic rock OG. Cut the middle man out and start listening to the Grateful Dead. There's a lifetime of good music in their catalog.

NOT with Queen or any other Glam. (not that there's anything wrong with that genre ;-)

How far are you willing to go back?

Do you prefer guitar harmonies? Vocal harmonies? Keyboards? Have any era in mind?

The 60s and 70s were chock full of so many different genres and styles.

You know the "Rock" era ended by the early 90s, right, sonny?

(LIVE) The Allman Brothers Band - Jessica - 1/16/1982 - University Of Florida

The Allman Bros could bring the Southern Rock heat. Awesome live rendition of 'Jessica'.

(TWO drummers -- plus the bassist is killin' it.)
