Nirvana inspired tons of musicians to try and make music without trying to be talented. The guitarists and music of the 80s May have been over the top but Nirvana set mainstream rock back for over a decade and its only just recovering.

Of all the grunge bands to ooze out of Seattle, Nirvana is my least favorite. The songs are just kinda meh, except for Lithium and Come as You Are. I acknowledge their contribution to the genre and music in general, they just weren’t my favorite.

On a side note, Cobain (God rest his soul) was one bizarre human being.

Same could be said for the 70’s and 80’s punk scene.

They’re not overrated at all. People that weren’t alive or over the age of 10 don’t really understand how important Nirvana was to music.

Same people say that the Beatles are overrated. Can’t take that hot take seriously.

For some reason people consider Grohl a great drummer even though there's really no evidence of that

He was a highly music specific functional big hitter. Important in a three piece unit. His sound was like he played with oversized 2bs.

Compared to what? If you understand the climate when that group of artist dropped, they were a relief from the Warrants and Bon Jovis of they time. Van Halen was being pushed as rock.

Nirvana took the #1 spot in music knocking off Madonna, prince, and all of hair metal. They were a force that the music industry was not ready for. It turned it on it’s head.

Are you saying Van Halen isn't rock?

This. 70's Van Halen is pretty much exactly what I would use to describe rock music to someone who's never heard any before.

I don't see how you could classify them as anything but rock. You can not like Hagar but to say they're not rock just doesn't make any sense.

This comes up all the time, but people forget Nirvana was the band that burst out and knocked pop fluff like Michael Jackson & Whitney Houston off the top of the charts. They also were the dagger for most 80's hair bands. Nirvana exposed us to the beginning of the grunge era and so many other bands, even if for a few short years, like AIC, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, etc. Kurt was obviously folding under the pressure, so if he lived, we will never know if he could have maintained his songwriting ability, but for me, after his death, music wise things started to go down again...
I was just glad I was fortunate to see Nirvana live on their last tour before Kurt's death. Interestingly, I was also able to see the Foo Fighters on their very first tour at a club in Houston.

Probably, but they were a 3 piece act so I give them credit there.
