Justin Chancellor is/was such a massive part of how I think about playing the bass. Dude's a genius composer and probably the best current rock bassist. Yes, better than Duff and Flea, fight me.

No. I listen to them here and there. But to me all the albums sound the same. Bongos and background guitar sounds and a predominate bass sound. (Let the hate begin)!
Dream Theater is my favorite band and will always be.

I like them and have at least a dozen of their songs in my top 500. But I have outgrown their sound personally. Maynard is not my cup of tea anymore.

That said they are fricking solid musicians. Very very solid. I am just partial to Undertow and always have been. It is one of the darkest but jamming albums I have ever heard.

Yes. And my 11 and 10 year old children will be accompanying me to the TOOL show in NOLA. Begged to see them if they came close - it will be their first concert

Top 5 band for me, or more like 1 of 5 that I can't decide who I like best. They are all 1 to me.

With that said, I can't get into the new record. It's too familiar. While it's technically great, it's not fun like previous work and sounds too much like everything else they have done. They even reprise previous riffs on it.

Regarding Chancelor, yes he is great. If you want to hear a fantastic bass player though, you need to check out Armistead Burweel Smith from Pinback. This dude needs to be in the conversation for the best bassist for the past 20 years. His style is very similar to Sting's Police work.

I wouldn't consider any of Tool's music to be fun

I’ve never cared too much for them overall. There are individual songs by them that I enjoy, but I wouldn’t call myself a fan. My biggest complaint - and I know there are many here who are fans of theirs, so obviously this is just my opinion - is that, for a band that’s supposed to exist somewhere in the hard rock/metal genre, they just don’t rock very hard. Their sound has always been kind of thin to me.

Super pumped about seeing them in Atlanta. First time seeing them since two shows on the Lateralus tour. Tickets were alot easier to get back then, lol...

That said...Tool the band is awesome, but Tool the organization is a shitshow.

I scored VIP tickets to ATL... I'll also be attending Memphis and NOLA.
That'll make 28 times seeing them live...
