I can't stand his politics now (didn't mind them back in the late 70s/early 80s) but he is one of my favorite lyricists of all time. Anyone who thinks he is overrated needs to listen to his 1975 show at the Hammersmith Odeon in London.

That said there is a world of difference between his albums between 1975 and 1985 and any of this albums before or after that time period. That's where the best stuff is (other than Nebraska, which is, apologies to Queensryche, maybe the most depressing album ever recorded) . He hasn't been as good since he found his Yoko Ono.

I was a casual fan until I dug in to his live bootlegs, especially from the Darkness tour. Gained a new appreciation after that. The later live stuff with Nils is good too. Love the live version of Youngstown.

I don't mean this as a critical statement:

I am guessing you are fairly young, and the girls you are talking about are pretty young?

Your statement was not at all true when his stuff was being released.

Great run.....include Nebraska and Born in the USA and its pretty amazing....he early work before Before to Run was even better i/m/o. Greetings from Asbury Heights N.J., Wild Innocent and the E Street Shuffle.......

Used to be a massive Springsteen fan......not so much now.

I'm not sure why someone would like the old stuff and really drop out of being a fan.

Very few musicians sustain more than 2 decades of great albums. I've always felt you sort of have to resign yourself after a certain point that the peak is over, like with athletes.

I like Springsteen a lot. He has anthemic rock songs and a dynamic live act. For performers like that, it's rarer to get good stripped down music. Albums like Nebraska are something a lot of bigger arena rockers could never do.

Who gives a shite about his politics? Well, some of you do, I guess. This is the MUSIC BOARD. Get over it.

I usually don't care about politics in any particular song or album but if I spend $75 to $150 going to a concert I expect to get $75 to $150 worth of music for my time and money. I don't want to hear someone spouting off on current events every ten minutes of the show. That is time not spent playing music. That is time that my money is being wasted on. If I want to hear a political lecture I will spend my money on tickets to a political lecture. Shut up and sing.

Pretty much every concert I've been to, the singer or band talks to the crowd.

Frankly, if I just wanted to listen to music, I'd stay at home with my sound system. Banter, crowd stuff, it's part of the live experience that makes it worth it.

If you don't like it because it is opinion and you don't agree...I don't much agree there because I don't get super offended by opinions I don't like.

There's a difference between talking to a crowd and standing on your soapbox. I'm fine with the former. I've seen Dylan live and he didn't say one word to the crowd the whole show. It was a technically good performance but it came across like I was watching a show in a refrigerator. No connection with the crowd at all. That's swinging the pendulum too much in the other direction. What I'm talking about is when a band goes full Dixie Chicks or Bono on a self-indulgent day.

All about opinions.

Nebraska would not make my top 10 Springsteen albums. Too mellow.

That represents probably his high water mark in terms of creativity although Greetings is close. I did not mind Born in the USA, but I was not wild about his stuff from the 1990's, but Magic is a very good album as well

I'm not wild about Springsteen's politics, but in terms of getting your money's worth, Springsteen does respect his audience and the money that they pay . He still does a 3+ hour show on a regular basis and actually looks to enjoy being up on stage .
