I've always liked this guy. Hell of a songwriter. Found this video of a recent recording he did on a YouTube channel called Real Life, Real Music.

LINK

Edited to add: Some really good recordings and interviews with other artists on that YouTube Channel as well. Josh Ward, Walt Wilkins to name a few.

His songs come up on my alt country mixes. I like most of what I hear. Love Down The River.

First time hearing him. I like it.
Some of it hits pretty close to home though.

" You can't hang yourself if you aint got enough rope" That's a hell of a hook.
This guy is the real deal.

Been a fan for a long time. I regret having never caught him in concert, yet.

Some of his songs have been covered by other artists, but they really don't do them justice.

I saw him about 2 years ago. He’s good. The only complaint is his voice and lyrics didn’t come across too well live. He was hard to understand and I was in a small venue with not a lot of people in the crowd.

He used to play in Dallas back in the 90's and early 2000's. There would only be a handful of people there to see him but he generally put on good shows. One show he kicked his band off stage and cursed them out before continuing solo which was bizarre. Not sure if that was just a bit or real.

I'll try to do that later. I've got to get my arse in gear and do a little work sometime today.

Absolutely. One of my favorite singer songwriters of all time.

He's one of the rare ones for me where I can put the album on and listen straight through from first song to the last.

I first learned about him through the Trailer Tapes albums. There's two of them and they're stripped down acoustic versions. Which is where he's at his finest, imo

Does he have any more upbeat stuff at all?

There’s a few. ‘Oil Patch Town’ is first to come to mind. But his specialty is definitely the introspective stuff. Which is probably why he never broke through to the mainstream.

You’re never going to blast Chris knight with the windows down at Panama City beach.

He has a few. The studio versions of a lot of the songs you just watched are a little more "upbeat" with a full band vs. just Chris and his guitar.

Well, it seems to me, that he has the right kind of sense of humor, that he should be good at writing some funny upbeat stuff. Might be his picking ability holding him back a bit.

Here's another great Chris Knight hook:

"Love and a .45,
all you need to get you through the night
One'll kill ya', one'll keep you alive.
Love and a .45"

Uncle Sam comes around gettin' both hands in your pocket
People out there, just barely are gettin' by

Render unto Caesar no more than you got to

Keep the Lord in your heart,
And keep your powder dry

And while you're waitin on a good time
Draw the Line
