They are a prog/hard rock band and thats the only label you are allowed to apply to them.

I have to give you Panic guys credit
At least Panic has their own sound and distinct style
That's a lot more than 95% of the scene can say

Any sets I should check out with tight jams?

Are you really interested in Phish's "songwriting"? They're great because of their jams but the actual songs that were originally written are not that great IMO. I mean I love Tweezer but I'm not listening to it for the first 4 minutes, I'm listening to it for the last 15.

Their best sets have been at the Varsity, obvi

Carnival '99 is their most well known live CD...itunes has a few "dicks picks" types of albums, a lot from Red Rocks

Cheese in the Trees - greatest jamz from Hornings Hideout
Cheese on the Rocks - greatest jamz from Red Rocks
Live from Boulder theater was probably the first I heard.

Listen to the NYE shows to get a feel for how they are currently.
Or July 4-6 last summer. Great run

Has Sam done any New Years runs at MSG?
Posted on 1/17/14 at 2:25 pm to Spaulding Smails
He was on the bill this year but in the basement

Lizards, Cavern and Mike's song are my favorite of those. I love dwd as well but I still think of it more of a Tweezer/Ghost type song.

I am a sucker for its simplicity. Also absolutely love the guitar right before the final chorus. One of my favorite Phish moments ever actually.

Earphunk is more rock than funk
