Acoustic guitar players: What is your favorite brand?

As I have said before, I am looking at buying an inexpensive (four figures is not happening) cut away, electric acoustic. I have a $250 standard Fender. I have outgrown it. I want something better and easier to play passed the 12th fret.
I played a $799 Yamaha A series yesterday that sounded and played as well as the $1799-3000 Taylors. Any thoughts?

I love martin. Got a nice one not too long ago, but I just am still sold on Taylor. I dunno why.

For the money he's looking to spend, Martin and Taylor may not be the best bang for his buck. I've heard some low end Martins that left me very unimpressed. Some of the laminate body guitars just have a very empty sound, regardless of brand. However, the hardware will be solid.
The best suggestion I can give you is to play what you are thinking of buying before parting with your money. Different people like different sounds and different necks are comfortable to different people. This is going to be YOU playing the guitar, not the acoustic guitar players of tigerdroppings.

this. you're not getting a good Martin/Taylor unless you are willing to spend $3500+. even though they are made in america, any Martin/Taylor that is $500 or less are made in mexico. I should know. I have a GSmini Mahogany. Still sounds good though.

Trust me, I have been playing many to find out what I like. And in no way am I looking for someone to tell me what to play. I just wanted a little discussion, to talk shop. That is all.
And I agree about the low end Martins. I think the Yamahas and Fenders in the 500-800 range sound as good or better, at least the ones I have played.

I bought a Taylor 616ce recently, spent a lot more money than I thought I was going to but wow, it plays very well. I'm digging it. It has a very big sound

That sounds amazing...but I am sure John isn't playing a low end Martin. I cannot spend more than 900...less than 1,000.

Not true for Taylor. You can get a damn good Taylor for a lot cheaper than that. Mine is abut $1200. I love it.
For a Martin you have to pay much more for the true Martin sound.

Agreed.
Now at their best I think Martin > Taylor
But if you're looking at their affordable instruments the. You've got to go Taylor
