Ok, so you don't have time to watch any long videos? Well, you'll only need less than 5 minutes for this:

There, I fixed it for you. Kiss always followed the trends for the $$$. Sellout posers all the way to the bank.
If it sounds good coming out of the speakers, nothing else matters. Pose all you want. Sell out all you want.

had blowhard Simmons hadn't spent years lambasting other bands/artists for doing the same thing, and/or Simmons & Stanley constantly punching down by publicly criticizing the diminishing skills of former bandmates...
So then how do you feel about him doing it directly to Paul Stanley?

I'd rather hang out with Ace than Sleazy Gene or Creepy Paul any day

One more for shits and giggles...

In this clip, someone blows the count-in to the click track (either Paul or Eric Singer, don't know for sure), so Paul is actually forced to sing this particular time. But not before Paul's scream comes from the speakers...problem is, his head is turned away from the mic, because he was still scrambling to recover from the count-in gaffe

KISS is terrible. How did that become a thing?

Paul didn't wait for Singer to count in with the click track. He can't hit the higher notes, but it's never been this bad before now. Ten years ago, it sounded like he was just hitting bad notes or just sounded flat. Now, it's obvious that he can hardly talk, much less sing. Having said that, his live vocal was not that bad for a guy pushing 70. He only tried to hit a few higher notes and then knew better. I'm guessing that he can't even stay in the mid range without losing his voice completely after only a few songs.

That was simply not true when I saw him last weekend. I would say he talked TOO MUCH.

KISS is also my favorite band but I just don’t know if I can see them essentially lip syncing. Last concert I saw was in 2000 in Biloxi for the farewell tour may just leave it at that.

Certainly most are but there are still a few out there who don't. I've seen Steely Dan several times, there are zero backing tracks or accompaniment on those live dates. 4 female backup singers, 4 horns, 2 keyboard players, 2 guitar players. And every one of them are world class musicians. They don't need it.

I don't think that's even the issue, now. It's like women wearing high heels. Once 1 starts to do it, it's an arms race, so they all have to do it.

So, even Steely Dan is probably cleaning up vocals at the board. The suits had problems with Fagen's live vocals almost 50 years ago. I doubt they've improved with age.

I'm not making any particular accusations or assaults on character. If you think your favorite artists aren't using any sweetening or cleaning up of the vocals in a live setting, that's your prerogative to believe that.

But they are. The only real questions surround the specifics and the extent.

This isn't a matter of some vocal spit-shining done at the board...the clips I'd posted are worse than that. Again, this wouldn't nearly be as damning if Gene wasn't making comments like this:

I have a problem when you charge $100 to see a live show and the artist uses backing tracks,” Simmons said. “It’s like the ingredients in food, if the first ingredient on the label is sugar that’s at least honest. It should be on every ticket — you’re paying $100, 30 to 50 per cent of the show is (on) backing tracks and they’ll sing sometimes, sometimes they’ll lip synch. At least be honest. It’s not about backing tracks, it’s about dishonesty.

I never suggested this is what Kiss is doing. I'm saying EVERY live act is doing this to one degree or another.

Every one.

Well, I'm not really in disagreement with that, although I'd argue there's some slight wiggle room with the 100% assertion...maybe no more than 5%, but slight nonetheless lol

One reason they didn't perform live for almost 20 years. It was never about the quality of his vocals. My point is, when you've got 3 chicks behind you, basically singing every line with you, you really don't need auto tune.

And I can promise you, those ladies are dead on pitch.

Meh. I just DGAF. I've never cared about this stuff. Even the whole Milli Vanilli thing - who gives a shite who was singing? If you like what you hear, then that's all that matters.

I have to admit that when I was a kid I idolized Gene Simmons. Now that I’ve been an adult for many years I’ve come to see him for what he really is....a self absorbed, greedy and morally bankrupt a-hole. That prick worships the almighty dollar and I would venture to say that he would gladly sell out his own mother to make a buck.

you know he's a jew, right????

Yes, but there's a huge difference between auto tune and some nice digital reverb on the vocal. Of course it goes without saying that the ones lip syncing are just terrible and cheating the listener.

I care because as a musician I appreciate the ability of the players to replicate what they produced in the studio. That's just me, I may very well be in the minority.
