Where do you think it ranks for that decade?

Does it still stand up for you?

Hadn't listened to it in years until this morning. Holds up surprising well to me.

Saw them live during the '90s at the Varsity. Fondest memory was watching the singer chain smoke the audience's used cigarettes throughout the band's performance.

"74-75"

"Slackjawed"

"Carry My Picture"

"Hey You"

"New Boy"

Wasn't familiar with the Fun and Games album--listening to it now. I'm surprised how tight it is. And '89?! Wow. It kind of reminds me of The Judy Bats' sound, actually.

Went to high school in Raleigh and discovered Ring.

One of my all time favorites. Thanks for the post, I'm gonna have to break it back out.

Reading Wiki, it looks like a pretty different line-up. Looks like they still get together for a few shows a year--mostly in NC.

Fun and Games is an all time great. I view them as the ultimate college band in the likes of Drivin-n-Cryin and Widespread Panic.

Saw the play twice in the nineties. Surprisingly good band live . . . at least I was surprised.

Great pop band (and that's a compliment).

If there's a bigger fan of The Connells here than I am, I would be surprised. I like to think of Ring in the same way I think of Life's Rich Pageant. It does not have the same quality of single as the earlier albums, but from start to finish, it may be the best album of all of them. I say that and I don't really even like what may be the most well known song, 74-75. So many solid songs. Spiral and Burden have been hear by basically no one, and it's a shame.

Agreed. I like "'74-'75", but not in the way that it's pretty much become the band's signature song.

Something about their sound just embodies everything I loved about college radio during the '90s.

People have mentioned Fun and Games above. One Simple Word is also amazing.

same here but include late 80's/early 90's.

I put Chapel Hill area up there with Athens in terms of college bands. Probably a little more diverse too.
