90's country music was the greatest era of country.

There have been awesome, legendary, and influential country artists in every decade since country music was invented, but it is my opinion that the 1990's was the greatest era in country music history. Many country artists in that decade were considered "neo-traditional" in that their sound was a blend of classic country honky tonk and modern influences. They still incorporated classic instruments like the steel guitar, mandolin, violin, etc. while embracing rock n' roll elements. If you look at the artists who made their mark in the 1990's, including Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Tracy Lawrence, Clint Black, Travis Tritt, Mark Chesnutt, Confederate Railroad, Brooks & Dunn, Terri Clark, Sammy Kershaw, Jo Dee Messina, etc., the list goes on and on, their collective bodies of work were incredible and true country. I love artists like Merle Haggard, Patsy Cline, David Allan Coe, George Jones, Willie Nelson, Hank Sr. and Jr., Waylon, etc. who, without them, country music would have been sorely lacking... their influence paved the way for the 90's artists and beyond, and because of their influence, it allowed the 90's artists to reign supreme in country music history. What do y'all think?

There was also some great music like The Mavericks, Dwight, K.D., Foster & Lloyd and Lyle going on too. I wouldn't call it country's greatest era, but the decade had it's moments.

I'm not a big country fan and even I like the 90s stuff.

I wish Tim McGraw, Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney, Trace Adkins, and the other artists who cut their teeth in the 90's would go back to making that kind of music.
Tim McGraw's "Everywhere" album produced 6 of the best songs of his career. I really wish he would have stayed on that path. The "Live Like You Are Dying" album and everything since has not been near as good as his stuff prior to that
Trace Adkins "Every Light In The House Is on". Long fall from there to "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk"

I agree, the music coming out of a Nashville in the 90s was terrible...
Luckily, that decade would see the movement of alt. country become a real force in music...

I think you are between the age of 25-30 and no idea what you're talking about. You are falling in the ole trap of reminiscing about your youth and feeling it was better than other time periods.
There is nothing wrong with that, but you did ask what we thought. Also, I feel the best era was between 1975-1985 which supports my above statement.

Agree. Current country music is repetitive garbage.

the 60's and 70's had the best country music, mostly the 60's.

Moreland and Sturgill would be heavyweights in any era, what those two are pushing right now is as good as it gets.
