Ok, I could never figure out why the horses would whinny when they said her name, but it is really funny.

Shame she's not really aged well, but then again, neither have I.

Teri Garr was aging incredibly well into her 40s & 50s until whatever illness she has grabbed her.

Funny enough, Mel brooks introduced fart to movies the same year YF came out

Does Kudrow have Multiple Sclerosis? Because the treatment for that is just devastating for most people and definitely affects the appearance.

Say what?? Muscle spasms or weakness affect the appearance, not the meds. The newer oral meds are easier to handle than the ABC shots, tho.

Of course you're right about the muscle spasms and weakness, but she's also had it long enough to have had to go through a bunch of Prednisone cycles and shite. I mean, it wasn't all that long ago that MS was a bitch to just keep corralled, much less anything like managed in most patients.

I should have been more artful and said "the disease and many of the treatments can ravage the general health and appearance".

Alright. I’ll give it another watch or two. I don’t know if it was my mood or what, but I was expecting to be laughing from the get go like any other Mel Brooks film

The humor isn’t the same as Blazing Saddles or History of the World. It’s very much in the deliveries. The deliveries seem to hide some of the best moments and that seems purposeful. I think it, like Lebowski, gets better because you start to pick up stuff that went by you when you first saw it. Blazing Saddles and History of the World and Men in Tights, etc. all have those moments that you catch later but this movie is chock full of them. And then things that you don’t find funny on first go become funnier too. You start to see some of the little games they’re playing with the language and the physical comedy. I definitely think you have to be in a mood for it, though.

Not true, unfortunately.

Simply a gag playing off the common use of camera cuts with thunder and lightning to show horror on the face of characters in old horror films and to call into question just what Blücher does to those poor horses off screen.

Honestly I laugh harder when Igor says “You, know I’ll never forget my old Dad. When these things would happen to him... the things he’d say to me.” than the actual punchline due to his delivery of that line that he was about to impart some wisdom onto Gene Wilder when it’s about to be the most nonsensical and perverted thing that could come out of his mouth. You hear that line enough and the set up is more funny than the payoff knowing the massive improvised disappointment that is about to ensue.

Really, I would argue it's his best. To each his own.

It’s definitely funny. I love that movie. Blazing Saddles is still my favorite followed by Men in Tights and History of the World. But Young Frankenstein is hilarious.

[A wolf howls in the distance.]

INGA: Werewolf!

DR. FRANKENSTEIN: Werewolf?!

IGOR: [Pointing] Wolf there! Castle there!

DR. FRANKENSTEIN: Why are you talking like that?

IGOR: [Shrugging] I thought you wanted to.

Why are you talking like that?

Seriously, though, thanks for the correction. It has been a while since I've actually sat down and watched the movie.

YF is my favorite Mel Brooks movie, and one of my all time favorite comedies. How anyone could not like this is baffling to me. This and The Jerk are top notch comedies that don't get talked about enough
