Boys on the other hand have no issues geeking out at 30 over the same stuff they liked at 6.

Look at how much older men spend on Warhammer 40k (PC games, models, time on FB creating memes). The IP is fantastic, and amazing to boys and men alike, but you can't DEI that universe. Every female in that universe is still full of solving problems through violence. And we love it all.

Women do develop fantasy obsessions that extend well into adulthood, Harry Potter being an example.

As I have said in previous super hero movie threads: It sounds counter-intuitive, but the only way to increase engagement with Fantasy Sci-Fi, or Super Hero movies, is to lean MORE into the male demographic.

Time and time again, it is shown that the demographics for these genres are pretty damn consistent. -70/30 skewing male.

The only way to increase female skew is to reduce the number of men engaging, because the amount of women showing up for these things doesn't really change. The NFL found this out a few years back, too.

I don't have the data to back this up and can only go by my own experiences, but I theorize that having properties/films that men want to see ultimately result in more women getting tickets as well.

My wife has enjoyed the Marvel stuff, and will tolerate Star Wars for the most part. She enjoyed the Mandalorian for example, and we saw every MCU movie in theaters with the exception of The Marvels, Brave New World, and The Thunderbolts.

Thing is...while she has really enjoyed them, she wouldn't have gone to see one MCU movie if I wasn't initiating that effort. She never even attempts to to get me to see a movie in theaters more catered to women. If anything women tend to go see those types of movies (magic mike, sex in the city, etc) in groups of friends and treat it more as an event than a regular occurrence.

it seems pretty simple to me, get the men back to theaters and your female customer base will generally follow.

Correct. Male engagement drives it. but women attend with men. That is why driving up male engagement increases engagement numbers across the board

You get 65/35, irrespective

Do you want 65/35 of 1 million people or 10 million? That is the math being scoffed at in Hollywood boardrooms. They are doing the opposite.

They are deciding to pursue 55/45 of 100k rather than 65/35 of a million, because they think perceived good will from marginalized groups and "right side of history"-ism will increase their audience. Their math is captured by nonsense.

I can state that my wife and I have similar experiences.
Now, OTOH, Lord of the Rings movies she would have gone to with or without me, as she grew up with that and loves things like LOTR, D&D, etc.

Marvel she enjoyed with me, but she hit a limit of enjoyment (superhero fatigue) before the movies when to shite - after Infinity War she didn't see another superhero movie until Superman a few weeks ago (which she loved). She enjoyed Mandalorian (S1 & S2) but never watched much Star Wars except with her dad, who was a huge fan before he passed away so we would go see the movies as part of his birthday each year (him and his two daughters that lived nearby).

She has RARELY shown any interest in seeing movies catered for her in the theaters, and it's not like she doesn't enjoy those movies - she just prefers to watch them at home. For her, she'd rather watch a murder mystery (like Knives Out) in the theater over a romantic comedy.

They didnt get girls/women interested in any of this stuff other than the political activist women who just want to stick a trans flag on everything there is.

Funny thing is that these tropical fish hair colored harpies rarely support these efforts with their wallets. Yeah the want the Female Force, but very few of them actually pay to watch these properties.

I wonder if Disney thought turning boy brands to girl brands was good business. . .or is it all a plan to "own the chuds" and stick it to "toxic fans"

If it is the former

If it is the latter it's just genius. Expensive and career ending, but genius.

They go HARD for Disney, man.

Even when Disney admits to the far left rag Variety that they fricked up the 2 IP they bought to attract men. . .you get the usual shills saying "yeah, that 's not really what they meant"

Easiest fix ever. Go to Comic Con (or something equivalent) and find 6 nerdy guys in their 30s-40s. Hire them to come up with a 3 movie Star Wars epic. Hire male Star Wars nerds only, producers, directors to work on it.

Sit back and rake in the cash

ETA - or just make the Thrawn books. I read those almost 30 years ago now. They were good.

Fixing star wars would not be hard at all.... here is what i would do...

1. Fire the story group at Lucas film
2. Ask George Lucas to consult on a new trilogy with Luke Skywalker or Make Heir to the Empire series straight from the books
3. Reinstate the entire Star Wars Expanded Universe as cannon.
4. Declare everything in the current Disneyverse (excluding Andor, Rouge One and Mando season 1 and 2) non-cannon and in a parallel universe of suckage.
5. Good stories over DEI at all times. Write into every actor's contracts that for a period of time, they cannot talk politics on social media while they are the face of Star Wars.

Produce more Star Wars like Andor and Mando for series and focus on the Jedi/Sith for big movies about good and evil. It is ok to interweave some stories but the casual fan should not have to watch a TV Series to understand what is happening in a movie.

Its hard because there is a complete lack of will among the people in power at Disney/LucasFilm.

Theres nothing they want more than to center all of their content around progressivism/DEI/feminism. The majority of the board supports this theology, the majority of the employees that manage day to day operations support this. As long you have a religious cult holding the creative process hostage then you're not getting to step 1 much less steps 9 and 10.
