So much cringe in this episode. The "thank you for putting food on the table" thing was the worst of it, followed up shortly by the, "WE don't got Tito's here. Sixes and soda."
Just so bad.
The show does OKAY when it's pushing the plot along and building up suspense/conflict in the main plotline. But as soon as it actually examines the characters and their relationships, it's just awful. And the cowboy navelgazing porn and shameless brand plugs is just the worst.

Glad it's finally ending it's run. They could have done a 2 hour movie to wrap it all up.
Even the characters that were likeable are getting not so unlikeable. Kayce looks like he has to take a huge bowel movement half the time, or looks lost, not sure which. Rip's badass cowboy thing is old, especially when he talks shite to the older dude, no respect. Beth is an over the top bitch.
I want them all disappeared and let Rainwater take over the land. Speaking of which, they've given next to zero screen time to Gil Birmingham (Rainwater) It's all Beth the Bitch and cowboys.

I'm assuming they are doing (shitty) flashbacks because they were planning on doing this season as adventures in Texas and had everything shot when the Costner stuff started going down? So now they have to shoehorn it in and are doing poorly...not that I am surprised.
And as for the hippie chick I'm kind of impressed Sheridan actually tied off that storyline even if it was a stupid as "John was lying, you've been free to go. See?!"

Did they just throw that ugly female Indian lawyer out with the bathwater, so to speak? She just kind of disappeared, didn't she?

And even tied in a Gus McCrae quote at that.

The lack of usage of the tactical indians pisses me off more every episode. You've got spec ops indian that could pick people off then finish them with a tomahawk up close but you've done nothing with them. Hell, Tulsa king just used tactical indians to slaughter a whole bunch of dudes!

but you have to be an obtuse dipshit to have a hard time comprehending that they have hopped back and forth between the present day and the period when Rip and team first go to Texas. It’s not hard
So sorry we are not as smart as you.
But better to be an obtuse dipshit than a condescending a-hole.

Best part of the show.

My takeaway was that Summer will decide she truly wants to be part of the solution going forward and comes back to Dutton Ranch in the last few episodes.
The same goes for showing Jimmy in episode 9.... John forgave Jimmy's debt in one of the past seasons and allowed him to go to Texas to chase his dreams, while wearing the Yellowstone brand on his chest.
You may be giving too much credit to the potential plot.
I think they are just tying off loose ends.

Love me some Mo Brings Plenty.
I’m kind of surprised that Ben/Mo have gotten as little run as they have so far.

I don't think John Dutton's dead.
I caught a little clue that may point to this.
The afternoon of Jamie’s encounter with Beth in his office, he had a meeting with the Lieutenant Governor…not the new Governor.
Generally speaking, the first order of business when a chief executive dies is to swear in his successor. When Harding died, they literally dragged Coolidge out of bed at his Vermont farmhouse to swear him in…then he went right back to bed. And of course we all know about LBJ being sworn in on AF1 while making his getaway.
Can’t swear in a new Governor while the current one is still alive.
Far fetched? Maybe. We shall see.

This show makes being a cowboy/working a ranch the equivalent of being an astro physicists.

Also, I thought the conversation at the end of the last episode was about killing Beth, not John?
It was initially, but after Jamie brought it up, Sarah replied with something like "and while you're at it..." then Jamie said "Yeah, I was thinking the same thing." Implying that he was also considering having John murdered.

I wonder if the plan was to kill Beth in the second half of Season 5, but when Costner’s fiasco went down and he quit they just killed him?

Now the show is kicking a spark a little

Didn’t Rip taking a picture of Jamie disposing of a body at the train station or when he helped Jamie stage the death of the reporter he killed?

I think so. Beth took a picture of him when he killed his dad, didn't she? Or when he dumped him or at some point.
