My guess is that its supposed to fit in with the whole ' can't take short cuts ' lesson from the beginning of the movie. And while Diana and Steve are a fine on screen match, that's not a story that is foundational for a 2 1/2 long movie.

I think it’s solid

Solid shite.

Before I get into this like Bill Clinton on a 16yr old on Epstein's island, allow me to give praise where it's due...

The acting by the main stars (Gadot, Pine, Wiig & Pascal) were spot on. Much of the CGI was solid and seamless. The fashions of the 80's were on point and, thankfully, they were a bit merciful on the hairstyles.

Aside from those points the rest of the movie puts it around the Green Lantern level for me. Let me count the ways...

The casting was good except for the Lord’s son and for Reagan. Both of those were so standout bad that my only guess is a couple people at DC desperately needed blowjobs.

The movie starts off with her fighting a precursor of the Wet Bandits. Yes, had they instead made Wonder Woman 1990 Diana could have just sat back and enjoyed an Orange Julius while Macaulay Culkin foiled the heist because this group which was every bit as cartoony and slap-sticky as Marv and Harry. Except Macaulay would have done it with less lasso. A LOT less lasso.

From there the movie spasms to a more serious tone and thankfully stays there for the most part. The only exception is the pre-wish version of Wiig's Barbara Minerva. Part of the issue is they had her playing Awkward at about a 9 but should have dialed her down to a 7. That's bad directing on top of bad writing. An even better idea would have been to scrap the awkward-but-trying-and-failing thing altogether and instead go for meek, timid and painfully shy. Having her wearing subdued tones in her clothes, not making eye contact, whispering "good morning" in an almost painful way only after her co-workers are well out of earshot would be much more endearing than what we got. It also wouldn't make her co-workers look like dickwads for almost sneering while trying to ignore her. In retrospect, this portrayal of them comes across as man-hating (more on that later).

Some of the fight scenes were good but what the frick was with the lasso in this movie? I felt like Christopher Walken was offstage somewhere shouting "More lasso. WHAT THIS FILM NEEDS IS MORE LASSO!" Not only does this thing now somehow show people the past, it can apparently divide into split ends like bad hair and rope EMPTY frickING AIR. Seeing it lasso lightning in the trailers was cringey enough, but empty air? Why not just have it grow an anus and shite veggie lasagna so you can end world hunger while you're at it?

The lasso is so beloved by the writers and/or director that it's the main fighting implement in almost every scene. The final fight scene on the island had moments of great potential but were ruined because they decided to Cirque de fricking Soleil most of it with Diana using her lasso and Cheetah (although strangely never named in the movie) using some miraculously insulated high-power electrical line as her own Tarzan rope. I would call this a dumpster fire but at least a dumpster fire can provide the utility of warmth, this was just a cold, wet, dark, smelly dumpster.

While much of the CGI was good there were a few parts that were just... wtf? Specifically, her super-running. The Flash series from the 1990's had better running. The Bionic Man series from the 1970’s slow-motion (and yes, with the sfx) would have even been better. Hell, in a side-by-side comparison I think I would have preferred the super-speed running from Greatest American Hero. #TeamRalph4Life

And then we get to the Themyscira scenes with Way Too Young To Be Competing Diana. This girl hasn’t popped her first zit yet but she’s competing against thousands-of years-old elite Amazon warriors and beating the boob sweat off them? Holy The Phantom Menace, Batman! If you’re going to follow a Skywalker’s path in learning lessons of life, at least follow Luke’s and not Little Orphan Ani’s. Instead of having her own pod race, they should have had Antiope running her through some sort of personal competition. Maybe some setting up some sort of moral lesson so she learns this “beauty of truth” or whatever and they have their Luke and Yoda moment. Awww… cute. Instead we get a scenario that trivializes her need for training in the prior movie because by then she should be able to beat all their asses.

Did anyone else notice there were nine contestants at the beginning yet only seven banners, colors, horses, bows and targets for arrows? And how did they know which color was assigned to whom? It’s not like that was explained to the audience. Maybe the fricking lasso told them.

Another point of poor writing is the background on the crystal. Their rushed explanation that it was just some evil god left a lot to be desired. The real selling point here should have been the evil god created the stone to be semi-sentient so that it hamper the growth of human civilizations. The evil god wanted to keep mankind primitive and submissive to better control us. The crystal would grant wishes but would take things that would further the goals of civilizational collapse. By becoming the crystal, Max became unknowingly driven for what he saw as his own greater control of everything but the more control he sought, the more chaos he created. THAT is fricking interesting. What we got was something turned in by a college sophomore to his intro to dramatic writing class after a 3-day tequila bender.

Let’s not forget about shitty clichés, because this movie has a bunch of them. Remember the man-hating I mentioned? The vast majority of males in this movie who interact with Barbara and/or Diana multiple times (aside from Steve) are more stereotypes than anything else. They are either sneering dicks who look down on them or are lusting after them, there’s very little in-between.
Speaking of which… how many drunk guys do you see wearing suits while drinking from bottles in paper bags?

Another cliché… if there’s a big car chase scene involving heavy ammo on the outskirts of Cairo of course there’s going to be kids playing soccer in the middle of the highway because why the frick not? Hey! I bet she uses the lasso again! Winner, winner.

Speaking of that scene, if the nuclear global annihilation event ever comes about, I’m hiding under the hood of that little car. It was taking direct fire from multiple machine guns at damned near point blank range and all the bullets did was scuff the paint. Not a single one made it through to ping the motor. They should be holding Ghislaine Maxwell there.

Maybe they should have called this Wonder Woman #METOO

Wondering how Wonder Woman knew where this secret broadcast island was? #METOO

Wondering how a lowly researcher at the Smithsonian has access that gets her to a fricking jet? #METOO

Wondering why the Smithsonian has a jet exhibit with a perfectly running and fueled up jet that’s on a tarmac and ready to go at a moment’s notice? #METOO

Wondering what US F18-style jet available in 1984 had a side-by-side cockpit seating and a range of at least 3k-4k miles? #METOO

Wondering how a World War One pilot knew how to start and use the equipment in a circa 1984-ish aircraft to plot a course halfway around the world? #METOO

Wondering where Wonder Woman’s costume came from just before the big caravan fight scene in the desert? #METOO

Wondering how the magic is working two ways through a one-way metaphor even after the camera is gone? #METOO

Wondering how Wonder Woman is able to communicate with the world through a metaphor even after the method of communication (the camera) is no longer working? #METOO

There’s more, so much more, but I think you all get the point. The groundwork for some great ideas was present, the actors did well with what they had to work with (Margot Robbie knows what I mean) but it felt like this was the rough draft of a story that was rushed through editing because deadlines were more important than quality. It does not give me hope for the Shazam sequel but is about par for what we’ve come to expect from DC where there appears to be no one (or group) at the helm with a decent eye toward quality.

Just finished it and I thought it was solid. Like the first movie I’m probably not going to rush to rewatch it, but I’m glad I saw it. Definitely a lot of things to pick at, but overall like I said I’m glad I saw it.

Why? Honest question.

Eventually, there comes a tipping point where those 'things' start to sink the watchability of a movie.

For me, the continuity issues between WW and BvS, Justice League alone were enough to keep me from watching. ( Yes, reviews clued me in on some major plot holes. )

I get it if you're a huge fan of Gal Gadot. I for one don't like it when movies think I'm stupid and that I'll just blindly accept anything they toss out there and be grateful for it. But that's just me.

You sound like a joy.

It passed a pretty enjoyable two and a half hours on a Friday night. That’s it.

Like I said originally, I won’t be rushing to rewatch it anytime soon. But I didn’t go in thinking it was going to be an all-timer, and it was about what I expected.

So disappointed.
Pedro Pascal was awful.
Story wasn’t fully arced out.
Why have a suit that fllies when you just discovered you can fly.
How the hell does Bruce Wayne not know she existed and was active since WWI . He’s the Worlds greatest detective.
The whole wishing crystal just seems to be a plot point just to bring back Steve Trevor. Makes no since.

An event which brought us to the brink of global thermonuclear war with WW in the centre of it and it's just forgotten - by everyone? But she walked away from the world 100 years ago.

This movie was made for millennials with no concept of time or history, or even how a good movie script works.

Oh sure, some will claim ' but that's how things work in the comics, so what's the big deal ? ', but that's not how movies work. Steve Trevor was established in WW and BvS. It's the same timeline, the same universe, but now Patty Jenkins interjects this pile of garbage right smack in the middle, with zero explanation.

Because a woman MUST reject the love of her life if she wants to realize her full abilities. Or something.
Me thinks Patty is projecting a bit here.

What's the matter?

Nothing I said was in the least self aggrandizing. Just giving my honest opinion. That bothers you... why?

I don't get it.

Read this back to yourself. Make sure to apply the condescending tone that your words made most of us infer.

I’m going to assume Patty sacrificed her personal life for her career, and regrets it.

My mistake, the brunt of my snark was lost on that because I missed my follow-through in my mad dash to post so I could get chores done. I meant to tie that all together with how Wonder Woman, in essence, committed rape against the guy whose body Steve was possessing by unknowingly using the crystal as a magical roofie.

Unless we're okay with that now because "reeeeee patriarchy" or whatever. (it's hard to keep up with sometimes)

It was pretty bad. No action at all for the first hour. Nearly 20 minutes on an Olympics course opening just to teach Dianna a lesson.

Villains that you can't hate throughly.
Good guys that you don't feel for a much.
The first was a really good movie.

This one was a standard DC movie. Shot out to my neighbor for the HBOmax login.
