Michael B Jordon will play famed Clancy badass Clark in Without Remorse. A book "adaptation".

However, it appears the name and character of Clark may be the only similarities. The entire story line from the book, Without Remorse, has been ignored it seems. Which is a shame, because the book was fantastic.

quote:

After seeing his pregnant wife murdered, he seeks revenge. That quest takes John Clark into deeper waters than he’d ever suspected, with players that are seen as above his pay grade.

This does not happen in the book.

BOOK SPOILERS:

Don't see why they would completely abandon the drug dealer angle, seeing as that is where Kelly's rage was directed, and the main plot line of the book. There were 2 plotlines, revenge on the drug dealers that killed his girl, and rescuing the downed pilot from a prison camp in Vietnam.

Even if updating for today's time, they could have still kept the drug dealer angle, but made it a cartel hit, as opposed to a druggie/mob hit. And the rescue could have easily been a downed pilot in the ME somewhere. You don't even need to substitute the Russian interrogator angle, that is still valid today.

ETA: This would be cool though, assuming it's stays with source material.

quote:

Even after several attempts at reinventing and sustaining Tom Clancy’s Ryanverse, there’s a lot riding on the shoulders of Without Remorse. If it succeeds, it could see Michael B. Jordan stepping into another iconic franchise remastered for today, with wide reaching implications as to where future projects could go. That’s especially true if this leads to Rainbow Six’s cinematic adaptation, which was part of the original deal struck to make this film. We’ll have to just wait and see what happens when Without Remorse takes its shot at greatness on April 30th, only on Prime Video.

Are they saying Baltimore isn't a drug-infested shithole?

Just based off the trailer, i don't think drugs play a part in it. Seems to be another boure-esque, it's really a shadow government that is the bad guys.

It'll be interesting if this is successful enough to go into a full Rainbow franchise with MBJ as John Clark.

If they don't do the Clean-up-the-drug-dealers story, I'm holding out hope they keep the wrap-the-body-in-chicken-wire and dump in the Chesapeake scene.

It's my favorite Clancy novel. I've read it three times. Why do movie studios take great books and frick them up?

I hate Hollywood.

Was this the one where he put the guy in the dive chamber?

I enjoyed Clancy in general, but Mr. Clark’s origin was my favorite. Like Ludlum’s Bourne, the Cold War/ Vietnam era has passed, so I am okay with an update to this era, unless they take Clancy’s most badass character and turn him into a virtue signaling asswipe attacking the evil white man.

They completely butchered it, it seems. Without Remorse is BADASS and should have been set in the 70s and played just like the book. Its awesome enough on its own.

And there is no way they wouldn't change Rainbow Six drastically. Almost everyone in Hollywood agrees with the villians of that particular book.

I just started reading Clear and Present danger, and from what i gather, this is where Rainbow 6 originates. Clarke's involvement (so far in the book) is limited to forming the team. Seems like a big name to not have doing a bunch of action scenes. I'd be further along in the book, but my 3 year old loves to pull the book marks out of books and hide them.

Or the "stuff a pressurization tube with a drug dealer and increase the pressure on him incrementally until his skin bubbles and eyes pop out of his head until he gives up the information" scene.

Too many pages in a Clancy novel. Libs are too lazy to read anything more than children's books, to call them racist.

Look what they did to Sum of All Fears' bad guys. We went from Aloha Snack Bar to Skinheads before the green light was fully on.

Best Clancy book IMO

Have wanted this done into a movie since I read the book when it came out

Waited all this time and this is the shite they are going to release? Pathetic

And how exactly is MBJ gonna pull off playing an Irish American Catholic character?

I didn’t like the Willem Dafoe casting as Clark. But MBJ?

I read Without Remorse and have been reading the Clancy books in order. Currently on Clear and Present danger. I never picked up any overtly strong signals that Clark was Irish Catholic. At least nothing that would tell me the character HAD TO BE Irish Catholic in whatever movie. Though i could have overlooked it.

The only thing i don't like about Jordan being cast, is he always plays the pure good guy. Clark was not an Angelic pure character. He was a ruthless special forces operative, that had a code.

Dafoe did not fit the body type for a Clark. He was too small a guy.

I friggin HATE that Amazon owns the rights to this story

Without Remorse is one of the best books in the Clancy Collection

Rainbow Six is perfect for the small screen as well

The biggest issue (if we are going from the books) is that the character Clark worked for the CIA and was mainly based within the Soviet Union.

How many black dudes do you think the CIA sent into Russia on covert missions?

Rainbow Six has a storyline about it, but yeah it's not exactly the biggest deal.

I'm going to be pissed if they ruin this, by far (which is saying something) the best book.
