What an episode

The last 15 minutes of it beginning with Kareem’s locker room speech was absolutely amazing

I couldn't tell what Herbie Hancock album that was that the young fan gave Kareem. It didn't really look like any of his album covers. Apparently one of his favorite albums is Empyrean Isles, but it didn't look like that album cover.

There were a couple of great individual pieces but on the whole that episode was awful. Waaaaay too much time was skipped over in this episode. It made the time jumps in Game of Thrones look tiny by comparison.

For example, one second Kareem is looking for a new team and couple scenes later he’s back on the team and it’s a week into the season w/no mention of how he re-upped w/LA after they made a point of showing him shite all over Buss in the previous episode.

Not only that the show isn't tight on being linear. Some may like the looseness of playing with time but when you have a character driven soap-opera drama, tension doesn't build if you jump around.

I don’t feel that way at all.

They’ve clearly made this season, if not the whole show, revolve around the L.A. vs Boston rivalry. Hell they gave Bird his own episode just to really reinforce that as the central overarching conflict.

Skipping over the non Lakers/Celtics series is fine with me because we don’t really care about the other teams.

Aside from the internal struggles within the team, which has always been handled well, the Magic/Larry and Buss/Auerbach rivalries are so well done that’s what we are all waiting to see.

And that’s what was happening in the league at the time too. The show has done a great job of showing how they were blossoming into THE superstars of the league trading championships and MVPs without the big showdown, but we are about to get all the way into those great Finals clashes as they both come into their primes and I can’t wait to see it.

This is a Lakers show, ultimately, so this season will be the “Empire” ending, with the subsequent seasons showing the coronation of Showtime head to head with Boston and ultimately the commercial that brought Magic and Larry to become friends, and again I think they’ve done a great job setting it all up.

Plus, there does seem to be real concern for how long HBO lets this show go on, so if getting to it ensures we aren’t left hanging without getting back to the beginning and Magic’s press conference I say fast forward as much as you need.

Anyway, was just checking in to post how awesome this show is. I’m still blown away by how good the casting has been and how it really feels like watching Magic Kareem Coop Riley Bird and finally Rambis

Can’t wait to see when Worthy and Scott become bigger storylines and ultimately wonder how much we’ll see of Isaiah and the other Pistons like Dumars Laimbeer and Rodman plus maybe even MJ and Phil as a prelude to the Three Ring Circus sequel???

Show always hits for me and the recreation of the 80s with the filming and music is just top notch imo

Didn't realize it would be the series finale either. I thought for sure they'd get at least one more season.

Apparently the last scene was filmed well after the rest of the series.

I guess they learned the show wouldn’t be renewed later on, but I’m trying to figure out when they filmed the final scene because of the various strikes going on.

Jeff Pearlman and others were tweeting with cautious optimism that the show would continue even last month.

Between this and how even the Righteous Gemstone guys thought their show was over, I’m sure Zaslav’s dream of turning HBO into My 600 Pound Sister Wives and House Hunters, Season 43 is well on its way.

It's the sort of show that in the past HBO would have stood by and given them one more season to wrap it all up. The audience obviously isn't huge but the show is still really good.

Now a show about the Lakers dynasty will forever end on one of their most heartbreaking losses in franchise history. It's almost Celtics porn now.

Very underwhelming and aimless series of course has a nonsensical ending. What an absolute shite show.
