Martin said this week on his personal site, Not a Blog, that "Winds" won't come out until after the first volume of his House Targaryen history, "Fire & Blood," is published.

And when will "Fire & Blood" arrive? Martin said only, "The first volume should be completed soon. The second is hardly begun."

frick you, Tubby. This is like if Tolkien held out on Return of the King and just released the Appendixes one at a time.

I haven’t read the novels but holy shite man....he’s just being fricking lazy at this point.

If it’s taken him this long to write Winds then he will never finish The last

He is never going to complete the series. He will literally die before he finishes "writing".

We will never, ever see Dream of Spring. Ever. Its not going to happen.

Honestly, I don't even care anymore. I'll have the show be my ending. I've moved on.

I’ve read the World of Ice and Fire. The only things in Targaryen history that I’m remotely interested in finding now is if Aerys and Tywin burnt down Summerhall and what caused the Doom of Valyria. That’s really it.

Winds of Winter - "Words are wind"

Edit: Histories of your world go fricking behind finishing the fricking story you fat frick. His publisher must have told him to put something out or they would sue him.

I've read everything GRRM has written in this universe, but it has been so long since anything new came out, that it took me a while to remember what the hell that is. It's sad really. I'd like to say that I don't plan on reading his Targaryen history, but I will probably pick it up when it comes out. I will feel dirty doing it, though.

He wrote himself into a corner and can't get out. He's feeling the pressure and crumbling. Sad really

He created too many storylines.

No way to make it all come together nicely in 2 books.

Series wont be finished by him, family may pay somebody to write it when he dies for the cash

Sir Too Fat to Write a Book has already said if he dies, then the only ending we’re getting is from HBO.

I knew this would be the case whenever someone posted in the Crackpot Thread (I think) that some bookstore announced a release date for a Martin book for sometime in September. Not patting myself on the back because that really wasn't that difficult of a prediction to make with everything we know.

He's hit writer block and literally has no idea how to finish the series. There's no other rationale. Instead of figuring it out he's enjoying and eating his way to an early grave

Essentially, so has Martin. He gave the outline and now the story is out of his hands, although he swears he's going to tweak things. But, his motivation to finish up (let's face it - it's essentially "written", but he's hung up on 2 or 3 points, like he was in Mereen and that's it.) is completely gone. He's already been compensated for it, in other words.

As it is, I see his editors having to come in to clean up the draft of WoW and release it posthumously. I doubt A Dream of Spring is much more than an outline and maybe a handful of chapters kind of sketched out. So, based on the increasing time between novels, that's 8 to 10 years away, minimum.

Of course he will. He's probably planning on it so he can die without admitting he wrote himself into an impossible knot to get out of.
