quote:

Where Are The Black People in 'Shogun'?

quote:

There's a Japanese proverb that says for a Samurai to be brave, he must have a bit of Black blood. If that's the case, FX's monster hit 'Shogun' has a lot of scared swordsmen

Btw even Japanese people are asking where the hell he heard this proverb

As late a 1960's, black skinned folks weren't a common site there.

Cousins were in the US Army assigned there, and they returned to the US with their Japanese dog, Toku Reini. When they picked up Toku from quarantine, they brought her to our cousins, where a black man was doing garden work. The dog saw it's first black person and went more crazy than you can imagine. On a leash, it dragged two of us across the back yard.

Back in Shogunate times, NO outsiders were welcome.

They're getting roasted. That's the appropriate response.

The only response they can give is that Yasuke existed 200 years after the time period.

Even then, Yasuke was not a samurai. He was a shield bearer -- equivalent to a squire.

I would really like to see Yasuke's story in live action. It's similar to John Blackthorne's story. Is there any difference to the isolated Japanese from a Black man or a White man? Probably not.

No such proverb exists. How insecure do you have to be to cry that there aren't any black dudes in feudal Japan?

I didn't think anything would top the bizarreness of the OP topic, but you did it with that weird tale.

Congrats.

He should go to the source in Japan and ask them. He might not hear what he likes.

Assuming the validity of this quote (doubtful) am thinking black blood is black as in dark, evil. Not as in African.

So a show that is 100% POC doesn’t have enough POC? This should be exhibit 1 on “It’s never enough.”
