That and the emergency tone on the radio scared the shite out of me as a kid.

The Unsolved Mysteries and Rescue 911 themes both haunted me as a kid.

Try living next door to your grandmother and spending most nights with her, but having to run from your porch to her porch in the dark. It was probably less than 50 yards, but felt like 5 miles after having watched that shite.
Couple that with an inability to forget that one time you ran between two rose bushes and a big arse spiderweb with its spider slapped you right in the face, so you're running like some moron with both hands waving in front of your face to make sure that shite never happens again.
I imagine to an outside observer I looked like a guy version of Helen Keller being chased by a crazed axe murderer.
I haven't thought about that shite in years!

The Soviet Union was gone for years by the time I knew what an EAS tone was.
It meant tornado to me.

Ghost episodes were the worst. I’d go to sleep with my bedroom lit up like an airport on those nights. UFO episodes were almost just as bad, I remember just finishing one and my dad made me go put the trash at the road. Worst walk down the driveway ever

If you flatten the middle interval, you're right in the thick of the major scale (amongst other modes before some other music nerd besides me tries to come in and out nerd this post.) If you don't know what that means, think of the Do Re Mi song in your head.
Or you can sharp it, get into Lydian mode, and get into perfect fifths which is actually the most pleasing and harmonious mode/interval in music.
My point is on either side of thay middle interval are two modes which are extremely pleasing, almost heavenly if you will. And right smack dab in the middle of them is "devil music" which is really just dissonance.

Scariest non-Unabomber Unsolved Mysteries episode of all time. Name it:

There were two things you learned not to do with a quickness as a kid:
1) Leave your tv on the Unsolved Mysteries channel at 7PM on Wednesday nights.
2) Leave your tv on the Star Trek: Next Generation channel Sunday nights after Monsters.

There's a comedy podcast called Middle of Somewhere with Chad Daniels and Cy Amundson. They had a comedian named Brian Miller on an episode a while back. He told the story of his grandad who "solved an unsolved mystery" by being the Unsolved Mystery. The story on one of the episodes was about a "guardian angel" who would send money to a couple every Christmas.
It was hilarious to hear him tell the story and talk about how it pissed his grandad off, not because he didn't get credit for it (he never wanted credit), but because the whole damn family believed it was a guardian angel. His grandad wouldn't even let his grandma tell the family what he did. They only found out after he passed away and grandma spilled the beans.
I believe he said it started when the folks helped out his grandad after he got back from war or something. He never forgot what they did, so he always sent them money to repay them, but did it anonymously.

As a kid/teen, I was thoroughly convinced that I was going to solve the whole Huey P. Long/Carl Weiss/Deduct Box mystery...

The Unsolved Mysteries bit in Baseketball was hilarious: YouTube

Robert Stack is the GOAT host of a show. That voice and this show were the perfect storm for scaring TF out of 10 year old me

I remember Hurricane Bonnie when I was a small kid. Lost power that night. I remember my grandparents sitting at our kitchen table smoking cigarettes illuminated only by a candle and waking up every time the Emergency Broadcast System came on the radio for an update. I see it in my head every time I hear the sound.

McConaughey got his big break in a reinactment ep of unsolved mysteries.
