This is always the refrain of DEI zealots when they are called out for race swapping established characters. Be less transparent.

A make believe character who may be race swapped by the same creator of that character The uproar about this is laughable.

I mostly agree with your take, due to the climate now they would push the race agenda and not the story beats. Playing devil advocate here they can make Snape black, but they also have to make James Potter Black. Sirus could be White because they go for Death Eater = White Surpemist vibe.

Lily Evan of course would have to be white with green eyes as that is a huge feature in the book. Snape would then join a white surpemist group for power while they treat him badly and call him names for the color of his skin.

The problem here is if you make James Black, then that mean Black men go gaga for white women to the point of stupidity. Likewise if you make Lily Black, and James white, a black girl rejected a black man for a white boy. Taken to a another level, James Potter a White man forces his unwanted advances onto a black girl in Lily Evan and somehow she allowed herself to be colonized.

So its a damn if you do situation and damn if you don't but I believe they would have to change Blaise Zambini to white because he did join the Death Eaters. Assuming they going going ot make Death Eater = White supremacy and of course patriachy.

Its also not a good look if you have a black man be obesses over a white girl UNLESS they change it to be a tragic love story and its all a misunderstanding. Lean into that and a black snape would work and of course have James be the bad guy through and through. Something like Snape was going to quit being a Death Eater but James interference made him say tthe Mudblood word and end it then and there.

We all know that JK Rowling pulled that shite out of her arse last minute...despite never showing any such inclination. Two best friend becoming enemies is a common trope. That said, I doubt they would do any gay shite with Dumbledore beside him paying lip service. No one wants to watch old gay people going at it. Not even gay people.

If anything Neville would probably be gay since his actor is gay. Hollywood tend to make the lore character sexual orientation their actors sexual orientation. Either that or Ron since Ron never was anything more than Harry's friend.

On another note, JK Rowling said in an interview a few years back that she wished she had pair Harry up with Hermione, so maybe this series is a way for her to rewrite part of the series she wasn't happy with. You know like how George Lucas remasted the OT where Greedo shot first.

I do think there are times when race swapping either makes sense or isn’t as big a deal. For instance, Billy D Williams as the mayor of Gotham in1989 Batman wasn’t that big a deal. Most large cities were becoming majority minority, and a lot of the mayors were black men. It would not make sense to make Batman black, however, since he came from generational wealth. Most minorities with money are only in the first or second generation of money.
