I hope you’re referring to more NT than OT

Lol... I grew up Baptist on one side, Pentecostal on the other. Hollywood didn't form my opinion. Logic and reasoning did.

Because Christians will turn the other cheek. The other Abrahamic religions will either not allow it or people will get hurt/killed behind it.

Several have asked for examples, and the obvious answer is nearly ANY show that mentions Christianity, but here are a couple of specifics, and this is just the last 3 shows I’ve watched this week:

Brimstone - Guy Pearce is an evil, killer preacher, because of course.

Outsiders (series) - not a lot about Christianity mentioned, but when it is, it ain’t good…in one of the episodes the sheriff was taking his niece to church, and she didn’t want to go …his response was “listen I don’t want to go either because I don’t believe in all that God stuff, but we’re going to make other people happy. Let’s go be miserable together.”

Justified (series) - again, not a ton of references, but still sprinkled throughout the show…of course Boyd and Ava “don’t believe in that stuff”, but yet Boyd starts “preaching” in prison and cursing in his “sermons”….because that’s so reality.

That’s just 3 shows I saw in a span of a couple days…if I had time I could give you a list to fill the internet…and speaking of examples, how bout provide a list of programs over the last 30 years about Christianity that isn’t disrespectful? Now that is going to take some work, and it will be a much shorter list.

Any of those Michael Landon series from the 90's, along with Touched by an Angel and Father Dowling.
Any of the Hallmark Channel movies that involve a church.
The live broadcast of Jesus Christ Superstar.
God Friended Me.
Father Brown.
Derry Girls.
Good Omens.
The Simpsons.

But to the point of why religion is "attacked" is because of the power that it has. It's the same reason that politicians and CEO's are recurring targets, and white males, and (back in the day) husbands. It goes back to silent films and audiences laughing at rich people getting pies to the face. Taking down the powerful and the establishment is an entertainment staple.

Honest question for you. How is your complaint here that the killer is a minister different than LGBT groups complaining that Buffalo Bill in the Silence of the Lambs is “trans”?

Hyperbole and generalization aside - the country is 62% Christian. For the most part, people elicit humor from making fun of themselves and their in-groups. So, with a predominantly Christian populace you're going to see Christianity a lot in pop culture and, for the most part, that reference is going to be satirical. I'm assuming you're conflating satire with "being attacked" unless you're referencing something that is explicitly anti-Christian (which you don't do in your post).

For instance, the reason the Righteous Gemstones isn't about a Muslim/Jewish/Buddhist family is because that wouldn't connect with the average American viewer. It really and truly is that simple when it comes to generalizing/characterizing Christian representation in cinema/tv. That doesn't mean there isn't media that is overtly anti-Christian, but I'd venture to say that it's not as pervasive as you make it seem and is likely geared towards an audience that already holds those views.

Because Hollywood is a bubble of depravity and sin. Anything that judges their morality they lash out against.

These are people whose lives depend on what YOU think of them. If you attack the very religion that teaches people to do the opposite of Hollywood, then of course they would attack Christianity.

Well, for 1, "trans" is a mental disorder. Most people with mental/psychological disorders have more than 1.

This brings up another point, Christianity has been a dominant cultural and political force for the better part of 1700 years in the West. Naturally it’s subject to criticism and critique and satire Certainly there are times when the “criticism” is unfair and becomes a gratuitous attack but often even when that’s not the case religious groups still object.

Part because they can and it's socially acceptable - in general Christians have been reluctant to significantly push back (or at least sustain the push back).

Cunk on Earth encapsulated this pretty perfectly. She went on and properly and rightfully skewered Christianity for about 20 minutes (especially during the crusades.) Then she turned it to Islam and said "my producers gave me a specific list of what i can't say..."

and then.

LINK

it was pretty on the nose. Christians will take it because "persecution" is encouraged and a tenant of the religion. That being said, being made fun of on a netflix show is NOT persecution.

I will say that most of the times they mock a christian, they're mocking a version of Christianity that doesn't apply to 75% of christians i know and associate with.

Well, yeah. It's so the reality of his well-written character, who has a natural charisma and magnetism and an uncanny leadership quality. Him preaching in prison to gain power and advantages for himself makes sense.

And in no way "attacks" christianity.

Want a religion that doesn't get much negative media attention?

Try one that isn't a foundation of US society, like Rastafari.
