And they’ve never spent an afternoon outside in their life

Not so funny story;
I had to work at Northwestern (northern Chicago) for a few weeks.. the campus has a very large international student percentage.
The funniest thing I saw was half of them ran to class, full sprint, but they never moved their arms..
And they weren't holding things or gripping the straps on their backpacks..
Just arms straight down sprinting.
It may be a cultural thing.

Ninja are also frequently portrayed running this way (with the arms swept farther back, like the wings on an F-14 Tomcat), though they now tend to prefer the Ninja Run. Samurai also run in a similar manner, usually while keeping one hand grasped onto their katana. In a more (apparently) realistic series this may have something to do with the runner having a reduced profile and thus being harder to hit with ranged weaponry, but it's generally just the Rule Of Cool.

Meh, the way humans run is ugly af. Could you imagine us running after some prey? Just lol. That’s why we invented hunting tools

You ever watch Zach Watson go first to third? It’s a thing of beauty.

The whole Samurai/katana thing is mostly a myth fabricated in the last hundred years.
Warrior Samurai were expert archers, and trained to be as good at horseback archery as the Khan Mongols.
But warrior samurai were a considerable minority. the overwhelming majority of samurai were scribes, accountants, and desk-jockeys. Samurai was a title, like knight.
Also the Bushido code is mostly a fabrication
Most samurai warriors weren't loyal to anyone but their own purse strings, often changed sides when the guy that hired them was losing, and spent peace-time breaking kneecaps for loan sharks.
Samurai were pieces of shite, mostly.

Unironically...I believe they animated them running like that because it was easier/faster animate

True Story:
My friend in college had a dorm mate freshman year that was a HUGE anime nerd and I had 0 doubt he was very far down the spectrum just by the way he interacted with people. But I had English class with the guy it just so happened. I would see him running to class sometimes EXACTLY the way it is in the picture. With his backpack on and everything, just arms bent back and full sprint. No doubt because he was trying to be more like his anime heroes

Eh, you might want to go back and check your sources. Yes, there was a level of fabrication on what Samurai were but they were definitely ruling military aristocracy.
Also, katanas have been around since the 1100s at least

Because we run so fast our arms can't keep up with our bodies.

This in a nutshell. It takes more drawing, more cels, more coloring etc. to get the more realistic running action.
Still, that was far superior to "South Park", "Ren & Stimpy", "SpongeBob SquarePants" and other animation that is on U.S. TV.

That’s a little early. Japan wasn’t pacified until like 1610. By the mid 1600s though, you may be right.
