I waited through the credits in the theater just to find out who made that awesome song.

And if any elo fan hasnt listened to their album "Time,' its a fn masterpiece.
Saw them at the LSU Assembly Center in '81 on their Time tour. The tiny robot that came out on stage to give the prologue from the album was very Spinal Tappish.
BTW, their drummer and co-founder Bev Bevan was the drummer with Black Sabbath during their infamous Stonehenge tour that ended up in Spinal Tap.

I saw them in '78 in Denver on their Spaceship tour. Pretty cool to see the ship open up with them playing inside. I used to listen to them quite a bit but their songs don't have a lot of staying power for me. Catchy tunes, but the lyrics are a bit weak. But they really do work well in a movie. A lot of it is probably nostalgia, and the fact that the songs are basic but catchy.

It was actually the intro to CBS Sports Spectacular (they also used the EL&P version of "Fanfare for the Common Man").

Because ELO is awesome.

Living Thing sounds good at the end of Boogie Nights.
Jeff Lynne wrote some great High end pop songs and sings them well. I don't think the band anything special.
I'd rate them #3 for 70s high-end pop bands:
1)Steely Dan (by a lot)
2)Eagles
3)ELO
4) Fleetwood Mac
You could throw the Rolling Stones in that category too.
In the 80s, I can't think of any that measure up to those 4 except maybe U2, if they're your cup of tea.

I wouldn't say best vocalist, and neither would he. He kept his voice extremely processed during most of ELO's heyday. It wasn't until the Wilburys and Armchair Theater that he began to let his voice shine through.
Now, as a producer, he's been able to roll with the tide and remain successful for almost fifty years. In the late 80's and early 90's, he was the guy that the established stars went to for a career resurgence. George Harrison, Orbison, Petty, Del Shannon, Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello, Joe Walsh... plus he's who the Beatles brought in when George Martin was too old to produce their final songs. Jeff Lynne should've been in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a producer years ago.

Heard "Telephone" come on the radio today.
Will never not associate that song with Billy Madison, but it also feels like it would be perfect in any high art/Oscar-caliber film made about the 70s or beyond.

As I recall that was an unreleased song.
Pretty cool one.

I have loved ELO since I was a kid back in the 70’s. Strange Magic is one of the coolest songs ever recorded.

Because Jeff Lynn owns a wallet with Bad Motherfricker written on it.

Just listening to the sound of these songs - they have amazing quality. There’s a Doctor Who episode where they incorporate Mr Blue Sky, and it’s amazing.
You can’t beat a bit of ELO

2) It featured ELO songs while the band was at its peak: Tightrope, Can't Get It Out Of My Head, Boy Blue, So Fine, Telephone Line, and Rockaria!
Bonus: Griffith and Lockhart got naked.
