I think I'd go with Werner Herzog. Great director IMO and I really enjoy his way of using the land he is in to create atmosphere and make the scenery its own character.

life story ? Ken Burns
Story of drugs and alcohol back in the day (and maybe today) but up to as a family man and doing ok? Scorsese
anything else ? as long as it is not Terrance Mallick and make my life story overtures with rain falling on leaves and perhaps dinosaurs i don't really care except maybe John Ford if he was still alive

Wes Anderson.
I'd want people to think I grew up in a very clean, neat, and visually centered world.
And that I was raised by Bill Murray and Tilda Swinton.
