So many great choices - one of the few shows where I think I like them all
I may pick the most unpopular one but I really liked McNulty, one of the most accurate depictions of old school police I have seen on TV and really captures the struggles of being an alpha male in a bureaucratic society.
Omar
Stringer
Bunk
McNulty
Greggs
Daniels
Freemon
Pryz
Carcetti
Chris/Snoop/Marlo combo
Prop Joe
The Barksdale family
The Cargo Yard crew
The crew of kids
Cutty
On and on

Because if some federal mothafricker comes walkin' through the door, I say hey, it's all in the game! But a city police, Baltimore City, Hell Naaaw, can't be happenin' because I know I done raised too much goddamn money for the Mayor and his ticket! Hell Naaaw, aint no soul in the world that frickin' ungrateful!
Money Launderin' they gonna come talk to me about Money Launderin' in West Baltimore, SHIIIIT, Where do you think I'm gonna raise cash for the whole damn ticket! From Laundromats and shite, from some tiny arse korean groceries, you think I got time to ask a man why he given me money or where he gets his money from, I'll take any mothafricker's money if he given it away!

I feel like Omar is a given.
Always was a Prop Joe fan though. Bubbles too.

If you can see my avatar or read my signature it shouldn't be a mystery regarding my favorite.
Omar was the most honest with himself and the world and the least likely to break his own code. By far the most interesting character IMO.

Freemon is my answer
Then Omar, McNulty and Davis
Then probably Prop Joe, Bunk, Daniels, Stringer

I do like Stringer though. Clay and Rawls are great but they come across as assholes

Bodie was one of my favorite minor characters.
Landsman and Rawls together were great duo.

Slim Charles
Slim was the most honest and true to himself character on the show, along with maybe Snoop.
No bullshite, no games, no politics. Just The Game.

Aimee because of those fantastic titties.

Talk about an almost impossible task. I feel like you have to break it down by main characters, secondary characters and even extra characters. Of even break down the different groups like that. Cops/drug game/politicians/dock/kids etc.
If you make me pick one I was always a huge fan of smooth Lester Freeman
