So what's the equivalent for Piper? How will Lochlan cripple her ego? I'm having a hard time believing they will get sexual. It seems Lochlan's meditative state has awakened him to his problematic behavior from the night before, and Piper has taught him that value doesn't come from sexual conquest, but instead through detachment from their world of origin. Perhaps in the dark night of their sibling slumber party, Lochlan shares what he and Saxon were up to and she snaps. She lost control over her lil bro, and she can't handle it. She's actually deeply dependent on his support. So much for non-attachment.
IMO it goes back to my thoughts earlier about validation. Not that the incest isn't creepy as frick for Lochlan and Saxon (it is) but it was more Lachlan wanting to please his brother in the way he perceived he wanted to be pleased. He's desperate for some kind of connection.
I think him wanting to stay at the monastery with Piper is the same thing in principle, him wanting that validation and thinking that will make Piper happy. Which it obviously doesn't, she clearly is using the Buddhist angle to set herself apart from others (peers, family, etc).
As far as the suicide fruit, I'm sticking with my theory that Dad will make the shake in the hopes of suiciding out but gets distracted/doesn't drink it and someone else in the family does.

This is true. She thought she was unique in her longing for a lesser life but Lochlan saying he wanted to runaway from the BS showed her that she was really just running away from her problems and not some enlightened Buddhist like she is trying to convince herself that she is.

I have to rewatch the episode, but I started forming an opinion that Lochlan is actually evil. But I was tired when I watched and may have been half asleep.

I think you put it into better words than I did. I more or less agree. I just think it strcuk a nerve that maybe she was doing the monk thing for the wrong reasons. But maybe you are completely right and its just a "this is MY thing" reaction.

Same.
I love the 3 women.

In psychology, there's a whole thing regarding Identity vs. Confusion for her age range (it's that 12 through 18, but extended a bit more because of later maturation these days) as part of Erikson's Stages of Development. It's basically the whole "Who Am I" question and I think that's what she's exploring (and Lachlan to a degree as well).
Now that said, it's pretty on brand for a rich white girl to want to live in Thailand for a year as a "gap year" at a Buddhist monastery because it's so different from how she's likely been living stateside as a middle to upper class, Southerner. I don't think it's unreasonable to think she's doing it for the wrong reasons, that's very very plausible.

I have to admit, I didn't care for last night's episode.
I'm really enjoying the season, but I do think there's too many storylines. The beginning of last night's episode was jumping around a lot trying to flesh everything out. Some of it was very entertaining (Frank watching movies w/Sritala) but others aren't working for me. The Tim story is dragging on for too long, and does anybody care about Mook and Gaitok? I'm sure they're involved in the shooting but would anyone care if they die? Their parts of every episode are a bore.

it's gonna be hard to wrap all this up in one episode

Idk that they can. I think we get a conclusion on a few but not all.

I think he was seriously considering it. Don’t know if he would have gone through with it.
I think he’s going to make them all smoothies with the suicide fruit. The question will be who actually drinks it? My money is on Lochlan showing up and chugging it.

quote:I had actually hoped the initial opening suicide in the previous episode was real and they didn’t it’s-all-a-dream it. That would have been much more interesting. The family reaction and devastation, does Piper still stay to be a Buddhist, how the other guests react to the news and the family, even Bibb gets a chance to look down on Posey if she chooses. All more interesting to me than Tim zombie’ing around.
The Tim story is dragging on for too long
quote:I care about Mook for obvious reasons Lol. I like Gaitok because he’s a nice guy, but him mostly bumbling his way through the season is pretty meh. I’m sure they’ll be some real shite next episode though.
does anybody care about Mook and Gaitok?

Nah, old man knows it's his son (he repeated the mom's name like he was about to tell the real version of the story) and doesn't order retribution.
Heard that theory and it could be. If so, I wonder why he didn’t speak up when he had the gun pointed at him, or when Rick was making him flinch?
He said the mom’s name like he remembered her, but maybe he’s thinking, I remember her, I killed that bitch’s husband, oh crap.

What if Tim has a real Twilight Zone ending? He makes everyone suicide smoothies then gets a call that the Fed’s witness is dead and they no longer have a case.

He becomes the new Gary character of the show? Next season they’re at a New Zealand White Lotus and ole Timmy is there going by Tom and dating a 25yr old?

The three ladies story has been a bore. Just a bunch of gossipping back and forth but for a little bit of action last night. Could've cut out of show and no one would've noticed.
Their only purpose is being the conduit to the Russian thieves storyline.
The friend of the actress who was from Texas also knew the mom from North Carolina and they have mutual friends, and didn't give up her phone like the NC family did. That's probably going to come back around in the finale too.

I've actually enjoyed the 3 ladies storyline. I know not much is happening, but the interactions between the characters just rings so true. You can see that they've been experiencing these patterns of behavior and interpersonal dynamics in their relationships since they were young.
Other than the Sam Rockwell interactions (and the snake show), I actually have been most dissapointed in the Walton Goggins storyline. That's probably because I had such high expectations for anything he was involved in, but it just feels like he's been a little underutilized.

With Tim, I feel like I’m watching Alec Murdaugh’s thought process prior to murdering his wife and son.

he is the forgotten third kid who is looking for anything to grab on to, quite literally
