Haha, I loved Terminator 2. One of 5 movies we had at our house growing up. Watched that til the fricking tape wore out. (Other 4: Speed, Under Siege 2, Jurassic Park, Top Gun.)
But back to Godfather. I don't understand how the book can be so easily dismissed when the movie takes everything from the book. Don't get me wrong, Godfather is in my top 3 movies all time, and keeps moving up the more I read about how much detail Coppola put into each scene. But I don't see how the movie blows the book out of the water when all the thoughts, ideas, plot, and character development is taken from the book.

Its just presented better in the film. I never said the book was bad, just that the movie is better.

Not saying it blows the book out of the water, but sometimes an adaptation (which the movies surely are even if they are relatively true to the book) just comes together in a way that beats the original source. I think it has something to do with Pacino, Brando, Duvall, Caan, Keaton, Deniro, etc.

Witches of Eastwick...only because John Updike sucks balls.

I can only speculate but maybe Friday Night Lights?

I don't know if he had gay tendencies or not, but isn't he one of only three writers to win a Pulitzer Prize for fiction twice? What a hack.
Never read his Eastwick novels but the Rabbit novels were very good.

Nope. Whether you are talking about the Movie or the TV show, the Book is better.
The story of the movie is much more straightforward and doesn't have any of the background and information and exploration of Odessa that the book has.
The TV show took a lot more of the info about the town from the book and put it in, but it's really hard to compare a book that follows 1 season to a show that follows 5.

Forrest Gump film is so much better than book.
The movie is better but the book is good. Winston Groom wrote a second book as well that was decent enough though not as good as the first. He also wrote a Vietnam novel Better Times Than These that is highly recommended.

I'll have to read the book then.

Prizes are not important to me. Apparently, Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize for doing nothing. Never underestimate Updike's position as a literary critic in establishing himself as a notable author of fiction. Favors beget favors.
As to why I dislike Updike. His prose is too flowery and overwritten. His stories of middle-class America are, frankly, boring. His take on universal themes such as sexuality, religion, and classcism are unoriginal and forced. He's an unapologetic misogynist. He's just boring. That is a quality I abhor in a writer.

I would say it is on par with the book, both of which caught me at the right moment in life and got me into reading outside of the school curriculum. 8 years later, I have an undergrad degree in English. Palahniuk and Fincher both inspired me with one story to read for pleasure.

I'm a huge fan of both the movie and the book, but I think the book edges the movie.
ETA: I see several people beat me to this one.

iirc, the godfather book contained alot of the godfather 2 movie storyline. godfather book>either movie.
The book contained a lot of stuff that was highly unnecessary. If for nothing else, the movie was better because it cut certain things out. Also, there are certain things that are just better seen than read, such as a movie producer waking up and finding a horse's head in his bed.

The book wasn't horrible but the movie was much better.
There were some pretty major differences as well, such as (in the book) Hooper dying in the shark cage and Hooper having an affair with Brody's wife.
