Speaking of which, I saw this headline today.

Petition To Cut Matt Damon From Feminist 'Oceans 8' Racking Up Signatures
quote:

The blowback against "Borne Identity" star Matt Damon over his recent comments on sexual harassment and his longtime working relationship with Harvey Weinstein is picking up steam. Not only has Damon's "Good Will Hunting" co-star now publicly undressed him over his sexual harassment "spectrum" comments, a petition calling for Damon's removal from the newly-announced feminist "Oceans 8" has racked up thousands of signatures.

"The all-female reboot of Oceans 8 was supposed to be an empowering film for women. The movie spotlight the talents of its tremendous female cast and showcase the savvy and prowess of its characters" reads the Care2 Petition, titled "Sexual Harassment Isn't a Joke - Remove Matt Damon from Oceans 8," which has already garnered over 18,000 signatures.
I don't think there is a bigger SJW white knight in Hollywood. Dude loves beating people over the head with his Harvard education. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Nothing says empowering like crying in the corner until you get your way

Do women really need constant “empowerment” ? Do movies like this make a difference in the lives of women?

Have you ever met a woman who didn't crave constant external validation?

No. Not in the least bit.

I really think Black Panther will tell us if TLJ was Rian Johnson, or corporate mandate.

ESPN was the canary in the coal mine. It is Corporate mandate.

Just watch: Black Panther will do well just like Wonder Woman did and they won't raise a fuss.

Because they are/will be good films.

Then people talk about Women Ghostbusters and SW:TLJ and a fuss is raised again.

Y’all are going to have a tough time the next few decades as movie casts are less and less white. Believe it or not, that’s the way the demographics of the nation are changing and thus media will be shifting that way too. I don’t get bent out of shape about it and can appreciate a good show or movie despite the gender, sexuality and race of the cast members. But then again I also don’t get incensed when there’s a remake of a movie I loved as a kid. I can still watch the original if I want to be nostalgic.

Then go watch TFA. That film is diverse in a good way. It’s really like “who gives a shite what color or sex you are.” People of all types on both sides.

Now they’ve decided to simplify that by making a Purple Haired Gender Studies Professor as the head of the Resistance surrounded by women leadership and the villains all being white guys.

I liked TLJ. Both sides actually have a lot of diversity. Were you mad about the Asian man or black woman that are part of The First Order? Or the white males that are literally on the front lines for The Resistance?

ignoring the racial issue for now, here is the primary problem

Star Wars is based in two very patriarchal philosophies: the Western Medieval Knight (lore, at least) and the Eastern Japanese Samurai/Bushido

you cannot attack masculine traits without attacking the very ethos of Star Wars. the 2 movies in the NT, esp TLJ, are anti-masculine celebrations of feminine virtue

now as far as the racial issues, they just make no sense given the universe that was presented originally. all you're doing is forcing in tokens for no reason other than forced diversity, which completely invalidates any actual presentation of diversity

His narrative boils down essentially to anyone who didn't like the movie is an overt or closet racist. By logical extension, anyone who disagrees with me is a nazi.

I won't be surprised when people start labeling Mark Hamil as a white nationalist for saying his TLJ character was a very different character from Star Wars. If you didn't love Luke Skywalker this is no big deal. But if you did have a beloved character like Harry Potter or Katniss that was given similar treatment then perhaps you'd have a bit of empathy for the people who don't like a weak, mopey, milk guzzler in place of the jedi they last saw defeating Vader and facing down the Emperor.
