First movie my parents ever dropped me off at unchaperoned. Just me and two friends.

We played in the arcade for an hour before and after the movie and it was one of the highlights of my life.

I remember they had a double feature at my theater, that film and The Lion King. My friends and I in the neighborhood got some tickets and ended up filling up an entire row. What a damn fun time that was.

It's astonishing that the only detail I can recall from a movie that's over 30+ years old is the theme, which I remember with perfect clarity, beat for beat.

Classic movie. Kids today don't have anything remotely this good.

Lots of good baseball movies for kids / young adults in the early to mid 90s. You don’t see anything like that lately.

Rookie of the year
Little big league
Angels in the outfield
Sandlot
The Babe
Major league 2
A league of their own

Underrated sports movie.

Forget the fact that the cast was littered with future stars, it did a remarkable job of mixing in the kind of silliness of angels literally helping a baseball team with very serious themes: Adoption and child abandonment, all you need to do is believe in yourself and you can accomplish anything, faith, and right at the end smoking and cancer.

The scene right after this where after they win the coach lets him know he made the pitch without the help of actual angels is great. ETA; I think that scene is on YT too.

Man the difference from as a kid to now as an adult regarding the lines where the kid said “when are we going to be a family again” the dad said “when the angels win the pennant”

As a kid like roger in the movie it seemed like a deal. Now as a dad…what a friggin deadbeat

Also this is one of the only movies I know of to show fostering etc particularly in such a positive light
