There's going to be significant changes.
Its the reasoning behind the changes. And your take is such a surface level way of thinking. Hey guys, its ok to change everything about the book. At least they got the names right! Cool show!

Oh wow what a bad take

We watch it bc there’s almost zero tv shows worth watching anymore. We’ve watched almost all of them. We say on Friday “let’s watch the stupid arse show” and usually just get on TikTok or something during

I understand this is dumb and helps Amazon make more dumb shows but I’m so damn bored haha

Translating a story from the written word to video by definition is a change

As is condensing a sprawling Epic into a more concise storyline in the interest of time.

But neither requires a change in the substance of the original work

My post was not disagreeing with this notion at all.

Same here. I am enjoying it for what it is and not trying to compare it to what it COULD have been. There simply aren't many fantasy shows on TV with this kind of production.

Agreed, though it had been argued in the prior sprawling threads that the substantive changes were merely an organic consequence of the format-change/condensing process, which is absurd on its face!

I kind of liked this version of Perrin's backstory in that it gives him some depth (which I've always felt Perrin lacked early on). The flip side of this though is that it takes his brooding aspect from being a quiet deep-thinker to being mournful over the loss of his wife and the guilt which comes with that. It's great for Lifetime, not so much for this story.

To touch on what Roaad posted, Rafe has shown he either has no clue as to the story or the characters or else he simply doesn't care and wants to use it all only as a backdrop for his re-imagining of it.

And that's why it's not being hailed as being up there with other high fantasy like the original Harry Potter movies (where Rowling had an uncommon amount of control) or Jackson's LoTR movies. The further you move from the original story, characters and their motivations, the more likely you are to be moving away from what made it great in the first place.

Im right here with you. I watched E4/5 last night and was very impressed with the quality of the show. If I had not have loved the series I would have zero problems with it for a fantasy show.

Its honestly been so long since I read it I can't remember a ton about the early books so unsure of exactly what is accurate and what is not.

I think us book readers just need to disassociate and let others enjoy the series that haven't read it, and try to enjoy it for what it is.

S2 really is getting very good reviews from non-readers. I think we need to let go and let them have it.

The casting is so pitiful that I can’t ever return to the show. But I’m a book reader so I understand I have that hangup and others might not.

Absolute bull shite what they did to my favorite series. They couldnt even get Elayne's hair color right! SHE IS SUPPOSE TO BE BLONDE!

This adaptation is a bastardized version of the greatest fantasy series ever. Woke bullshite. Its as if netflix did the casting.

Everything about this show is NOT in the books. Its trash and only those who have zero fricking clue about the series or have forgotten what they read enjoy it

Still pisses me off

Yeah I see this sentiment a lot in this thread, and i have to agree. It would have been a huge success if they had stuck to the source material as closely as possible - the source material is great. But i knew it was going to be shite as soon as i watched the first episode of season one, and have no interest in trying season two.

They gave excuses for season one about it was bad because they had to cut 2 episodes. Well then i'm going to need an explanation for the scene with Egwene being initiated into the women's circle. Because that wasn't in the books, and it served absolutely no plot purpose to the adapted story. It seemed like it was only there to appease the woke gods of the showrunner/writers. Like the source material wasn't woke enough to satisfy them, so they had to add more. Women literally run the world in the source material because they are the only ones who can safely use magic.

I sat through all of season one to give it a chance. But after the women's circle thing, which was completely unnecessary and served no purpose, and leaving Elyas out, which would have made Perrin's wolf thing way less clunky and weird compared to how it was done, I gave up any hope of them redeeming this show. I'll just hope someone does a good re-boot in 30 years.

If I want to revisit this story, I'll just read the books.

It's not so much veering from the source material but the obvious mistakes. At least twice in the series, they have referred to Lews Therin as the Dragon Reborn. It's been a couple decades since I read the first 5 or 6 books, but Lews Therin was The Dragon. Prophecy tells of a Dragon Reborn (Rand). If Lews Therin is the Dragon Reborn, then who the F was The Dragon? Mistakes like this tell me the show writers have not read the source material.

I don't know about you guys but this season is really starting to give me hope, seemingly getting exponentially better each week. I'm enjoying it for what it is
