Jordan created an insanely elaborate world, almost on the level of Tolkien, and did it in third person which made explaining to the reader a lot easier. The show seems to be breaking this down to small bites for the viewer and then reinforcing it a few times before adding something else, I think it works far better for such a world/story in a visual medium.

So what do we none readers think of the 4th episode. I enjoyed it and felt like the world/situation is getting a little more fleshed out.

Best episode so far. Feels like the first one that was "premium", just my opinion.

First time I've gotten any sense of scope, both from the production and the storyline.

I'm happy this seems to be turning a corner. I don't know if I would have stuck it out much longer, if it were like the first 3. Now, I will.

In the book their flight from their home was more detailed, with a growing conflict from their being dog-tired (from having to flee after just fighting for their lives) which leads to frayed nerves. Then that conflict is escalated by their asking questions of Moiraine and her not answering them (dodging, refusing or just remaining silent). They rushed this in the show so Rand's blowup at Moiraine seemed to come out of nowhere, thus it felt forced and jarring.

This a great addition from a reader to this thread. Nothing spoiled at all but gives us context to explain Randy’s blow up.

I'm over here wondering what that black stuff that went into Matt's mouth was in that scene with the dagger and the razor teeth guy.

Remember where he got that dagger, and what they were running from. There’s a reason why they were warned to touch and take nothing.

Thanks, that's as far as I'll comment on specific things.

As the series continues it looks like those comments will be rare as they are telling the story somewhat differently than the book (non-readers, rejoice!). To put it in a way that doesn't impact anything, it started the same and will probably end the same but the way they are getting from the beginning to the end is different.

To put it another way, let's say two people went from New Orleans to Atlanta. One drove and one took a train. Same starting and end points, same general direction but different paths to get there.

As such I'll be even more reluctant than normal to comment because I don't know if the changes they've made were because they just didn't like things or for telling the story better through a visual medium.

Episodes are getting a little better each week. Problem is they started off at a 5 and are only up to a 6.5.

This is where a reasonable book reader could help out instead of the blind leading the blind. I have multiple Hodorish ideas.

- It looked like the all consuming shadow evil from the dead city, and he did steal that knife from there. So maybe that knife is weighing on him like the ring from LOTR.

- The false dragon's magic wasn't just light like the Aes Sedai's, it was also dark. If Mat is a channeler maybe he was channeling darkness.

- The Fade was in the area, do they have any mental projection abilities?

As others have said the 4th episode felt like the show has the basic set up out of the way and is starting to hit its stride. Looking forward to the next one.

You're going in the right direction. Pretty damn accurately as a matter of fact.

Not mental projection, but they instill debilitating fear in damn near everyone not an Aes Sedai, Warder, or "other" folks like Thom Merrillin.

ETA: Oh, and Aiel. Just wait until you meet these baws and bawettes. They take "give no fricks" to another level.

I'm liking the series. I would like a little more explanation of the world they live in. GoT did a little better job of explaining Westoros and Essos. I wouldn't mind some book readers giving me some backdrop info of the WoT world.

That’s not for this thread this is a no book readers thread.

If you want you can start a thread here or the book board asking specific questions.

Also:

Amazon is releasing Animated Shorts on Prime that explain the World and History.

This.

Robert Jordan's world is very complex and the way they are telling the story in the show is a little different than from the books. This could lead to an explanation of something which was trivial in the books but may be a big spoiler for the show.

This episode was good as a slow down point.
I'm glad they explained the witch bodyguards.

And it was pretty obvious the shadow stuff is following or linked to stealing the knife.

I'm guessing the 5th is the wisdom chick. Healing everything in a room is pretty powerful.

Although, I will say that everyone having Healing powers will get tiresome. I really was thinking samurai bodyguard was toast and wisdom takes over learning the ways of being a warden.

Imagine that you are doing a car tour of the contiguous 48 US states and that you want to see at least three cities in each state.

Jordan’s books did that tour utilizing every secondary highway and county road. You really got to see the country.

With only about 64 episodes to cover 14 books that average about 800 pages (175 pages per hour of TV), the TV series has no choice but to do the entire trip on the interstate highway system. You get the highlights only.

Don't get me wrong. There is the potential for a wonderful trip, even if you stay on the Interstate. Let's strap-in and see how it goes.

I wouldn't say "used every" but definitely "primarily used". Otherwise, outstanding analogy.
