you don't understand? Obviously, if you'd have gone to the directors website and watched the DVD commentary on the director's cut, you'd know that the movie is about...aw, frick, I don't know.

it talks about time-travel the whole time, then ignores what it was talking about and throws parallel universes in there. But they never once mention that in the movie, so you are supposed to have figured it out with the set-up of the time travel, which never happens.

There's manipulated dead, living, and all that shite. Apparently Jake Gyllenhal falls in love with a ghost and then its alluded to that they have sex. So there's that.

Oh, and there's no scientific reasoning to any of this. The director made it all up because it sounded cool. So you can't even research what he was talking about in the movie.

Like I said, it's fricking stupid. if you have to go to websites and listen to special features to find out what's really going on because it's not explained in the movie, then it's also poorly written.

But it does have atmosphere.

You should at least understand the basic premise: sacrifice. The reference to his name sounding like a superhero's should tip you off a bit as well as him allowing himself to be "killed" or taken out of the reality he had intruded upon by having the airplane engine fall on him.

see, according to the director, you got it wrong.

he didn't allow himself or have to sacrifice himself. he just didn't get out of bed.

If he wouldn't have died, it wouldn't have mattered. The actual anomaly is that he did die.

It's hardly a Clockwork Orange. We protect kids too much sometimes. It's not a "hard" R, and the movie is nice jumping off point to more challenging fare. You don't start at Eraserhead, you need to slowly realize there's more than just big blockbuster films first. Donnie Darko is a good gateway movie.

Though the teacher probably should've gotten permission just to cover his/her own arse.

Well she isn't. Admittedly we keep our kids pretty sheltered but she isn't pregnant either so I think we are doing somethng right.

If all it is is a few F bombs then I think she can handle it. Like I said, I've never seen it. I'm a good parent and monitor my kids though.

After reading this, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to make her be the Mormon in the class who has to leave when we talk about sex ed.

i still love that movie. i don't care what the hell it is trying to say, I just love the themes throughout.

the music is fricking awesome, the feel is awesome, and the various characters he deals with are all too real to me.

The crazy teacher/dance coach is so real.. and the new, hip, young teacher that gets booted for being edgy.. the creepy motivational speaker that EVERYONE had when they were in junior high.
