When I was growing up, the big movies were the "Beach" movies (Beach, Blanket, Bingo, etc.) and the Elvis movies. And on Sunday mornings they usually aired Japanese monster movies of Japanese space hero movies.

Lots of the regulars that have already been listed so won't mention again, one that I used to really liek that I alwasy get lambasted for is North. Yes I've seen the famous review.
But as a KID (the topic at hand) it's dang solid. Relatable main character, lots of fun and whacky situations with the different families, good sprinkling of humor, and good overall message.

When I saw it as a kid, I wondered why it wasn’t a famous movie.
