What prophecies have come true in GOT?

One if the main complaints I see is that Jon is Azor Ahai so he should have made the kill. What other prophecies have come true? Danys kid certainly wasn’t rhe staillion to mount the world. Stannis wasn’t the mannis. In season 6 the essos red woman said Dany was who was promised it seems like the prophecies either don’t come true or at least nowhere close to what face value would seem
Btw I believe Azor Ahai is ser pounce

There is a difference between getting the person wrong (Stannis) and the prophecy being wrong entirely. The former isn’t a big deal while the latter makes you wonder what the whole point of it was.

The witch that told Cersi that all her kids would die, none of her kids would be from the King, etc

Hot Pie is Azor Ahai.
Born amidst smoke and salts in the kitchens
If it weren’t for him, Arya would have never found out Jon won TBotB.
Arya is lightbringer, the sword Hot Pie Ahai wields against the darkness.

In a world of subverted expectations, why would anyone expect prophecies to come true?

Precisely. I don’t get why everyone is so wrapped up in the Azor Ahai thing other than being pissed that their personal theory was wrong. While also simultaneously complaining about fan servicing

Gold will be their crowns. Gold will be their shrouds.

It wasn’t just wrong, it had no bearing whatsoever on the story as a whole and may have been deliberately misleading. So don’t waste my time with such bullshite.

It fits with the theme of true believers setting aside their intelligence ignoring all evidence to the contrary in order to continue with their dogma.

I never thought that was a given. Hell it was Stannis for most of the series right

No one believed it was stannis.

it's the primary story of the story amidst the biggest challenge/drama of the story. it's kind of a big deal

"Prophecy is like a half-trained mule. It looks as though it might be useful, but the moment you trust in it, it kicks you in the head." - Tyrion Lannister

“I suppose it’s hard for a fanatic to admit a mistake. Isn’t that the whole point of being a fanatic? You’re always right. Everything is the Lord’s will.” -Varys
It’s a recurring theme that prophecies are not to be trusted

Every Hodor did. It was setup that way including the death of Shireen. The Azor prophecy needed a substantial sacrifice as well.

Especially when Melisandre is involved.
"Stannis Baratheon is Azor Ahai come again, the warrior of fire. In him the prophecies are fulfilled. The red comet blazed across the sky to herald his coming, and he bears Lightbringer, the red sword of heroes."
—Melisandre
"She talks of prophecies ... a hero reborn in the sea, living dragons hatched from dead stone ... she speaks of signs and swears they point to me. I never asked for this, no more than I asked to be king. Yet dare I disregard her?"
—Stannis Baratheon
"You are he who must stand against the Other. The one whose coming was prophesied five thousand years ago. The red comet was your herald. You are the prince that was promised, and if you fail the world fails with you."
—Melisandre, to Stannis Baratheon
"Born amidst salt and smoke, beneath a bleeding star. I know the prophecy. Not that I would trust it."
—Marwyn

I love that you think this is a reasonable defense of how the last episode played out.
