Saw it as an adult a few years ago, and it is pure B-movie schlock. But I saw it alone as a kid on the 10:30pm late show, as one of my first “scary” movies. it scared the beejeezus out of me.

Can't believe no one has said The Hills Have Eyes (2006 version) yet. Am I just a weanie? Shoot, I must have been 17 or 18 when I saw it and it still messed me up. Never again.

The Ring, I was 13 and was terrified for 7 days

Poltergeist
and the original Friday the 13th when Jason jumps out of the water.
As a little kid, I shouldn’t have be allowed to watch those.

I remember Jaws made me not want to go in the water for about 2 years. I was 8 or 9 when it came out. I also remember seeing Prince of Darkness in 1987 and I was 18 and the whole religious thing creeped me out for some reason.

i was grown by then so, wasn't traumatized. But, the rape scene and setting the guy on fire part were pretty rough.

Learning that the cops can be awful human beings - young girl getting raped and murdered and everyone blaming it on a kind retard who is murdered by the cops.
And then his ghost comes back to kill them all in revenge.
And this was a fricking Sunday Night Movie TV special but it played out like some gritty 70's slasher you'd rent with a strong R-rating.
Movie was creepy as hell and violent and scary for a supposed tame 80's movie of the week.
Bubba didn't do it...
That's what got me. I was 7. My grandmother was babysitting.

Alien, The Thing, Hunter's Blood, and The Brood all creeped me out as a kid. Only watched them once and still remember them.

Can't believe only one person mentioned Amityville Horror.
That movie is the definition of a child mind f*cker.
