It's interesting b/c when I was a little kid that's the way FL was presented in the media, and that's the way I pictured it. I think there is even a Mary Tyler Moore episode where Rhoda comments negatively about it and implies it's nothing but retired NY Jews.

It wasn't until Miami Vice that the image got altered. As with Hawaii Five 0 local politicians opposed showing crime run rampant in fear it would kill tourism. And as with H50 they were proven completely wrong and it became the greatest promo campaign the area ever had, b/c when hot chicks run around in bikinis guys don't care about anything else, even random gunfire.
