It's tough. I would put always Sunny, but it's not a sitcom is it? I think that's the funniest show I've ever seen.

Simpsons fits the mold, but it's a cartoon.

Sure it is. Half-hour situation-based comedy focusing on the same characters and typically the same settings.

1. Seinfeld
2. Fresh Prince of Bel Air
3. Frasier
4. Friends
5. Home Improvement

How I Met Your Mother before the death of Marshall's dad would be 2 or 3. After that, the show went downhill fast.

5. How I Met Your Mother

Tough constraining it to 5; there are many easily interchangeable with those I listed: Cheers, Seinfeld, M.A.S.H., I Love Lucy, The Andy Griffith Show, etc.

2. All in the Family
3. Seinfeld
4. Taxi
5. The "new stuff"- I'm cheating by putting all my favorite recent ones here- Arrested Development, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The League, etc.

Top 5 as in favorite, or as in best/quality?

Anyway, born in '79.

Favorites (as in ones I could watch the most):

SBTB
Fresh Prince
Home Improvement
Cosby Show
The Office

Quality:

Arrested Development
The Office
Cheers
Cosby Show
South Park

And any of those could also appear on my favorites list at a given point in time.

Note: Just recently started getting into Happy Endings, and had I watched that live when it aired, it might very well appear on one of these lists...it's great.

Also, Wonder Years is one of my favorite shows of all time, but I don't think you can put it in a list of "sitcoms." But maybe so.

5. Arrested Development

I'm not even sure that's right. This is hard. I love friends and blue mountain state. Those are definitely up there. Fresh prince for sure. Tough calls.
