I'd love a Mystic River type movie

I want to hate Sean Penn so much because of his shitty political views but the bastard can act his arse off. He is tremendous in Mystic River.

Good call.

My thread on it from a few years ago.

Also a solid sci-fi movie.

Wake in Fright

It’s been recommended to me before. The problem is I can’t find it on any streaming platform and the one YouTube hosted copy I found was poor quality

I’m going with The Claim.

It’s a western set in the winter climate Sierra Nevadas during the gold rush. It features Peter Mullan (Jacob Snell from Ozark in a role that likely influenced his selection as Jacob Snell). It’s visuals, and storyline help make it a very haunting western.

Younger people at least haven't generally even heard of

Memento
Gross Point Blank
Excalibur
The Hunger

For comedies maybe

Spies Like Us
Quick Change
Ruthless People

First one that came to my mind. Love this movie. The buildup in tension throughout the movie, making the guy think he was their friend, then the shocking ending. I know it was a true story, but still great directing and an awesome cast. Emile Hirsch and Ben Foster were awesome in this.

Other ones I think of:

Jumper
(don't care what anyone says, I thought this was an awesome movie, and Rachel Bilson was incredibly hot)

Room 1408
(with John Cusack - good horror movie with a good twist ending)

October Sky

Event Horizon was edited poorly for a variety of reasons but, per the director, the materials which were cut aren’t in good enough shape to allow for a restored cut.

They were thought lost completely but turned up in some salt mine in Romania or somewhere else fairly random.

I like the film but it is also a mix and match of pieces from a lot of other films. It steals one particular scene whole from Outland, a generally forgotten Sean Connery film.

Yeah I mean its definitely kind of a mess. But its also not a 36 out of 100 type movie.

Trees Lounge.
My favorite Steve Buscemi movie. It never gets any love when I mention it here, but it's a great movie from the mid 90s.

Its nothing like Mystic River, but a good watch. Its available on multiple services.

If you don't mind foreign films & subtitles, Memories of Murder, a S Korean movie, is fantastic.
