Jon on the throne, because Dani was going to be fricking fine with it?
Dani on the throne, suddenly smart at ruling and not inept and SJW as she was in Qarth, Astapour, and everywhere else?
Jon banging his aunt in a complete character reversal?
Cersei get a big cheesy comic book death scene?
The night king kill everyone and no one is left?

Every major (not minor) suggestion I have seen from the complainers results in marked changes from character arcs or behavior so they can get a storybook ending to a show that has been solidly grounded in medieval style political intrigue. Every other war that Martin based his books off of in Medieval europe ended in a pointless return to status quo with some minor change to borders or ownership that wasn't even the point of the original fight (See: election of a king, the north independent).

Did you get the impression this would be a satisfying, storybook ending when you watched the last few seasons?

Not have Dany go from saving everyone to killing everyone in a span of 1.5 episodes.

i've been saying this for literally years about GOT

it's not the outcomes; it's the process

Decent writing without gaping holes and complete character abandonment

Where they landed isn't the problem. How they got there is the problem

Tyrion does an exposition of her long list of murders of either defenseless or surrendered persons throughout the show. This is just the first time they showed it from the perspective of the people she was 'clensing'.

The outcome is not the issue. The sorry story line and clear decline in the quality of the show is the issue. Compare the first couple of seasons to the last one. There is no comparison. Hardly even the same show. It just got real sloppy at the end. Just my opinion.

Jon kills NK
Jon becomes king and marries Dany living happily ever after

Revealed that Bran is really the NK

Arya kills Cersei
Hound kills Mountain but mortally wounded - Arya grants mercy

The fans wanted fan service.

It’s like they forget they were watching Game of Thrones, written specifically to oppose this

I can agree with this

My main contention is the blame fails FIRSTLY on GRRM

let me also add that season 8 literally wasted 1/3 of its episodes on filler episodes meant to play up the NK only to have that have no payoff

I've already been through this and I'm not doing it again. A turn that large, in a show dedicated to character arcs, deserves screen time and to be fleshed out.

We didn't get that.

10 episodes.

I wanted to see Dany actually spend some time on the Iron Throne and do something in that capacity. Instead, she just touched it for a second.

Brans king
Sansas queen of the north
Arya is traveling the world
Tyrion is hand of the king and back with Bronn drinking and telling jokes
Sam is grand Maester
Jon is beyond the wall where he is most happiest

How the frick is that not a contrived storybook ending?

You don’t need a happy ending for it to be satisfying. The way they went about it was shite.

so probably the same or similar plot points and outcomes in twice the amount of episodes and I think most people would have been fine with it.

It felt rushed but I ain’t mad. I liked season 8 just fine.

The show could have come to a conclusion very close to what was done if they would have told the tale better. For example, Dany goes through a lot of bad things that would have killed mere mortals and became this "Savior" only to do a Pro-Wrestling heel-turn in one episode and after all of the shite she went through to get a dagger in the gut as a death?...From the very first season.."Winter is Coming" is what was rammed down our throats and the Knight King in one (poorly lit) battle end the entire war...Seriously?

It was the extremely poor character and story development that killed this season

I’ll say this, maybe I’ll break it down later

I think GRRM was aiming to hoodwink everyone

A song of ice and fire wasn’t just about Jon and Dany

It was about the NK and Dany

Everyone was focused on the ICE apocalypse they missed the FIRE Armageddon under their noses.

Everyone sings and then the ICE is soundly defeated. Everyone sings in celebration as the FIRE ignites.

The story is how those caught in the middle react. It’s ultimately a treatise against extremism and tropism.
